Like the topic says my dads work truck is currently using oil. He's got 125,000 miles. It's a 09 and well maintained every start up in the morning it idles for at least 10 minutes. He just put 3 quarts of oil in it last night. He had to add oil 2 months ago too. He is taking it to the dealer 2moro for a pulley his intake sounds like a howling noise on idle but then it goes away. His truck runs completely fine no miss or anything. Was wondering what u guys think. He's not leaking oil externaly either.

Stock? Could be a turbo seal. I would check the exhaust and see if oil is seeping out anywhere, if you can't find any visible oil coming out of the exhaust anywhere take the downpipe off the turbo and see if theres oil in it. Could be filling up the dpf before it finds a place to leak out of the exhaust. Ask him if it is re genning more than usual. (again if it is stock). I'm no expert but on stock 6.4's them seem to be a usual failure. Plus easy to check.

Any more noticeable ccv pressure/smoke? How long are his oil change intervals? You said he added oil 2 months ago so they seem a little far apart. Mine are weeks lol.

His truck runs perfectly fine. His oil change intervals are 18k because he runs amsoil synthetic. We will see what the dealer says about it. Like I said engine runs perfectly fine no misses no abnormal sounds. Gauges are reading normal. Idk we will see. Overall the truck has been treating him good even tho he was stock the first 100k. Egr coolers are still in tact tho so. Those are the next thing to go.

Thats your problem right there. 18k on an oil change is insane. All motors naturally burn minimal oil but with that interval and time span its obviously going to burn more

I might would do 7500 miles but no way on 18k. We do 18k on the C-15s and they hold 10 gallons

Turbos are toasted. I want to kick a baby right now. He's letting the dealer change them. And guess what they are pulling the cab. I told him I could have them changed in a few hours. But I guess he wants to be stupid. 4k to do it turbos included in that price. They found oil in the intercooler. Lower pressure has shaft play and compressor wheel is partially damaged. Right now I'm going insane. Completely insane. I hate dealers you could pull the turbos cab on why waste ur time pulling the cab. I'm pissed

Lesson learned. Go 5000 on oil next time. And you may want to do it but dads get smart. Hed rather pay and have a trouble free install and small warranty. Not sayin youd do it wrong just sayin how dads are. My dad has all his trucks serviced by a shop even though i have a place to do it for him.

Yea I suppose. Just wish they didn't pull the cab cause of labor. But I guess it's not my money or my truck.
