Lets just say this. There's a reason they only made them for 2 years. LOL jk

started production in late 06, ended in 2010

in the Fords... And the reason for that is that Ford was so snake-bit by the 6.0, they decided to make an in-house engine for the 2011 (and 2013) emissions regs. The 6.4 from International was a stop-gap for Ford to meet the 2008 emissions regs while allowing them to focus on the Scorpion project.

they're still in production/service in Internationals. It's a far better engine than the 6.0 and I dare say better than the 6.7 Ford

Lol I was joking dude. And depends on who you ask. I like the 6.4 a lot. But I've been WAY more motors in a 6.4 then I have a 6.0

They're easier to abuse in stock form... excessive idling, grocery getting, etc.

They're a far more advanced/capable platform than the 6.0, but not a truck for the uneducated

I know of 3 different Ford diesel techs who drive 6.0's and say they wouldn't own a 6.4 if you paid them...just saying

I believe it every time I fire up the truck without cycling the glow plugs at 25*F! :D

Thats something I noticed right away about a non heui engine.....better cold starts.
I still cycle the glow plugs though, sometimes I catch myself trying to do it on my gas vehicles too.

I come from the Cummins world, so I never think to cycle them.

It always takes me a while to start a 6.0 at my buddy's shop because I always just hit the key. Then realize that I need to cycle the plugs

I have had both, the 6.4 was a monster once deleted and tuned but the price to fix it is heavy. My 6.4 never gave me a problem ever, I just sold it because I was offered the right amount of money. On the other hand I'm very happy with my 6.0L so far. So for my opinion if you can afford to pay to play get a 6.4 but if not stick with your paid for 6.0L. It will be cheaper to fix your 6.0L than to buy a 6.4L in most cases.
