About to send the headlight assemblies off of my 2012 Superduty to Black Flame Customs to have them painted and retrofitted with HID Projectors. Has anyone had any work done with BFC? I haven't decided if i want to paint match everything but the buckets, just the buckets and amber piece, or everything but the chrome that goes around the buckets.

I had mine done by BFC, all black, and it looks amazing. I have pics in my threads and I would be happy to talk to you about it if you want to send a PM.

I just wrote on another thread about second set of stock headlights that I had painted black, and I was wondering if anyone could speak on whether there would be issues with the performance of LED headlamps in a painted headlamp bezel... I understand that the OEM chrome helps with reflection

REALLY?! Damn it, I figured so... It is too bad that LED's cant be made to work with a projector setup because I would ditch my HID's in a heartbeat!

No idea about that but I think I am going to attempt it. I still have my HID's in the truck so I will be doing some looking into.

I had a second set of stock lights recently painted with the idea that I would run LED's in them, but it makes sense (if possible) to try the above and if all else fails then I start from scratch I guess...

To bring this back to life, I have a question for the guys that did their own lights...

Can the chrome in the buckets be scuffed so that a light coat or two of something like Shadow Chrome can be applied to "smoke" the chrome? I really want to try the LED route this time around, but those only work when the buckets are not painted I hear.

If your going to paint the buckets you need projectors. Just smoking them might still work, but I'm sure it will hinder light output

I had fully blacked out buckets before in an HID setup, not this time around though...

I heard that scuffing the chrome can help the paint to adhere, but I am just wanting to darken the chrome enough so that it A) still allows for output, and B) blends nicely with the black paint of the housing.

What kind of longevity has everybody been seeing with the paint on the inside of the headlight after it has had a couple years of service? What type of paint has everybody used that went with black? My truck is the magnetic color but i'm undecided if I want to match or go with black. I'm leaving the buckets as-is.

depends oh a million things. I can only vouch for what i do and my friend does for SEMA builds and big builds, we have a professional painter that roughly $100-300 depending on the paint you want. Just did a crazy purple metallic and it was over $150 just for a pint.

im 2 years deep on my black pain in arizona heat, just depends if you or whoever builds the headlight uses and preps. If you rattle can it or use quality paint.
