I have a 2001 7.3 with 160,000 miles, some if the injectors don't work correctly until the engine warms up.
1. Has anyone ever purchased and installed a injector rebuild kit yourself? How did it turn out?
2. Ever purchase rebuilt injectors? Are they good and where from?
3. Is it best to sell my left nut and purchase new injectors instead of rebuilt or will this make a difference ?

Hey Larry! Welcome.

DIY kits are ill advised and none of our reputable vendors sell them for that reason. An injector is assembled using critical tolerances and require specialized tools to do correctly.

That said, go to the vendors section and take a peruse and ask any vendors about what they sell. Swamps, PIS, unlimited, full force, and rosewood are a few off the top of my head that offer injectors for your truck. Since you have powdered metal rods I wouldnt get too crazy with injectors. A 160/30 would get you a nice 375 rwhp. A 175/80 would be closer to 450. Id stay there somewhere. Or you could buy a set of remanned stockers.

Do a little investigation on your own behalf with what has been mentioned and pick the injector builder brain a bit and see what you really need.

Just put a set of 160's in a 01 from Dave's Diesel in Angola Indiana aandhey work very well sent mine in and he tested them and they were all out of sack flowing 10cc +/- from each other.. After I decided to get them from him he waved all the fees to test them ($45 per injector).. Installed and work great.. Great power even though there just above stock..right around $2100 with a free chip burn if you already have one..

I also put a set of 200 hybrids from swamps in my own personal truck and LOVED them a little pricy but my experience with swamps was a very positive one..like TyCorr said you really need to pick the injector builders brains and see what will best suit you..there's a lot to picking a good set up a lot goes into supporting mods also.. Be careful if you want to stay all stock and not get into other parts being needed

Before u do anything go Autozone and buy a two quart jug of Hot Shot stiction remover green label. Its 53.00 and pour into the oil. They have the fuel in an quart jug red label.

7.3 injector is as likely to get stiction as it is to get pregnant. 6l get it, never heard of it on a 7.3.

The part in Yellow is the first part of not buying what you say. The only way I buy anything from Autozone is if I break down in front of their store.

A bottle of seafoam in the fuel tank every oil change stops all injector flow issues. Oil change when needed keeps the oil side working fine. Abuse your motor and the injectors will be the first to complain about it. 365,000 miles on my engine. 150,000 since injectors, turbo, fuel system, HPOP and good tunes. No issues whatsoever with the motor. Now the trans on the other hand???

At 160,000 miles is about when these injectors start getting tired.

Down and dirty test, plug the truck in for a couple hours before your first cold start. Does it start and run OK then. If so, your injectors are getting tired. You can try some Seafoam or this hot shot stuff, it might put off the inevitable for long enough to get the fundage.

go down to the Performance Injection Systems PIS section in the vendor section and read my post today. Just get the injectors, YOU WILL KICK yourself for not doing it sooner, I can't believe I waited so long, just bite the bullet.

Autozone has helped me more times than I can count. usually when everyone is closed. All aftermarket company's get their parts from pretty much the same place.... everything? Heck no, but you'd be surprised.

It is sold as "stiction eliminator" but it cleans also.
I can say I noticed a difference on my 7.3.

Ive tried.that snake oil in the almost 500k ive put on my 7.3s. I stand by my comment.

Ive ran fuel that undoubtedly had water in it through injectors. Ive ran injectors for too long (235k) and ive NEVER seen it on a 7.3.

I'm sure. Its not.about doubting me. What set of conditions have to be present for it to happen?

I would say over worked, and too many miles in between oil changes.
But honestly, can't say for sure.
I know when I changed the oil and put it in, the oil got way darker and faster then usual.
Be cool to run it with some "dirty" injectors, then inspect them.
I can't say on the stiction side of things.

Done the oil change (not sure wen it was done last) and got the Hot Shots Secret stuff, also run a bottle of diesel Kleen in the fuel. Going to see what it does but no matter what going to replace injectors next month. What's better 160 single shots or the double shot injectors ?
