Somewhere down in Texas..
Strictly from the forged rod standpoint. Obs trucks had forged rods as well, but as far as super duty's go, 99.5-03 is the same motor, but most '01's-'03 have powder metal rods. Which, doesn't make them inferior, they're fine to buy. If you're wanting 500hp, then yes you want forged rods, but I wouldn't let it stop me from buying a pmr truck. Few extra bucks will buy a set of oem forged rods, and they can be swapped out during the build. The '02-'03 trucks are my favorite for multiple reasons. There was a time I wanted big power, but got over that quick, when I realized how much power you'd need to go fast, and how much that cost, and how un-usable the truck becomes at those power levels.

I like the 03 trucks the best with the exception of the PMR rods.

Mine is very reliable at the power level I am at. Granted, from this point on, I am only tweaking things. If I went any further, I think reliability would suffer.

I don't think you can go wrong in the 7.3. Yes 99 to the 03 you get more options in the interior factor compared to the OBS's, but if it's got a 7.3 under the hood...your good to go. Just my opinion though.

Agreed. I like the carbon fiber trim that came in the 02's

If you are talking purely from a stock performance level and better low HP mods, then the 99.5-03, depending on which version, will be the better renditions of the 7.3L PS engine. Bigger injectors, and entire intake tract is larger, making it a better stock platform to put a chip on.

The 6.0 is the chick you think you would like to have because you know she's easy to get. But you know she doesn't like it when you get rough and your gonna have to have alot of money tied up in her to keep her around for a while so you know she's a last resort. The 6.4 is the chick that's popular, fast and cheap to make her faster as long as you take care of her. The 6.7 is the new girl in town that requires a good amount of money to get her, most guys want her but can't afford and are unsure of what she's capable of so they steer clear till she's been tested.

But the 7.3, she's the decent girl around. She's the girl you can always count on, never let's you down and the money you put in her is never wasted. She makes a fine piece, although shes not the fastest, the best looking and can only be changed so much, with a little compromise she's the perfect girl for those who want something steady and sure.

I know right, guess that's why you have to own a 7.3 to understand and appreciate it. Lol.....you just have to put up with the noise.

I was told that the 01 and up have more webbing in places to help make the block somewhat stronger. Was i lied to?

There are, however, two different DI blocks.
The first series design is readily identified by
the lack of solid webbing in the valley up to the
deck of the block (Figure 6). So if you’re looking
down on the deck toward the lifter bores it is
one big opening.
The second series block (c/n 1825849C2) is
used from mid-1998-2004 with serial number
661,974 through 2,030,402. This block received
some structural improvements such as additional
crank counterweight clearance in the lower
crankcase. The visual identifiers are the full
casting separations between each cylinder in the
lifter valley to the block deck (Figure 7).
