Its all the new technology they are coming up with, better combustion with improved engines and fuel systems and what not is what makes these trucks get better and better.
But Id take my slow 7.3 over any of the newer fords........why you ask.

You can make a 7.3 much more quiet in the cab by just adding the under dash
sound panels from a X. You can get them from the dealer for under $100 for
the pair. Mine has a drone that almost cant be talked over if I dont have
the panels in. Add the panels and at 68 the only noise is wind and tires.
