I think it's definately a cost vs return thing. There are so many other places on a 7.3 to spend money first. I can tell you that if I ever have the heads off mine they will be getting a port job.

Reading this thread, lol.

"All you gotta do is x injectors, x turbo, you'll make x horsepower"

Not so much. Two guys bolt all the same parts on, one puts down x hp, the other beats him by 50 whatever hp. WTF, says guy #1?
Must be the other guy has a "better" engine, blah, blah.

Or maybe, guy #2 spent some time, tryed what a been there, done that shop recommends. Swamps has a lot of time and effort getting where they are, and that's part of what you pay for when you buy from them. I'm sure there are plenty of excellent shops that can do this, but you would be hard pressed to find one with swamps exposure.
I believe this setup is guaranteed to dyno what is claimed, repeatedly, and hold together. That can be hard to find in the performance world. Not the biggest number in the world, but any dumbass can call and have a respectable hp engine, no problem.

And no, I don't have a single swamps part on my truck, lol.

That's absolutely true. The right combination of parts matters immensly. I don't have anything Swamps on my truck either, but my next upgrade probably will be. The next step for me is a set of their heads and cam. I get my turbo and fuel delivery systems from Irate, my injectors from Unlimited, oil from Dieselsite or Stealth for bigger needs, and my tuning from Gearhead. It will always be that way. But the heads are something nobody else is doing yet. I'm not mad about it either. That's a hell of a place to get em from for sure.

Cost , yea I'll agree there totally. But if you have them off and have the ability to do some gasket matching and a little cleanup why not do it ?

Because then you're screwed with fresh unseasoned stock gaskets. You will be forced to do firerings if you want to push any respectable amount of power.

That engine in a 7400 pound truck would run an 11.2. Anything lighter you would be in the high tens on fuel only that would make it the fastest fuel only 7.3 "truck" according to the thread.

the parts for this engine build are listed here, aside from the long block/rotating assembly.

http://swampsdiesel.com/prestashop/en/1999-2003-73l/1167-900hp-heui-package.html

The turbo specs as are as necessary to meet your/the customer's sled pulling rules, if it's a drag truck, we have different options.

We tailor the cam to the turbo, and the injectors to the turbo, though it rarely affects price, it changes the performance substantially.

The 932 engine dyno hp was made with a 80mm/3.15" turbo....not a 66mm/2.6" turbo right?

I know that that's why I used the hp calculator and that factors in the driveline loss

You'll need more than 750 to do an 11.2

Takes 860 rwhp to et an 11.2 at 7400 lbs

That makes sense. I guess the hp calculator on here needs to be fixed than.

Doesn't need to be fixed. It's just you have to take everything into calculation. That calculator is for perfect conditions. Peak hp at peak
Shift points. It's hard to calculate things like this. If I use my time when my ipr nut fell off, and stalled, started back up and rolled into it, 21.xx at 107mph.. It would say 130ish whp. But if I say my actual hp and weight to an et , it would be 12.5ish

Swiper no swiping!!! LOL Sorry. Facebook thing.

The problem is people don't necessarily think about traction, spool, trans slippage, weight, etc. You need all the moving parts working right to get a good number. In my experience the HP calculator on this site is very accurate. I trust it more than some of these wild dyno claims that we hear occasionally. Like the 550hp on stage 2's and a 38r we all read about in Diesel Power a while back. That was a good one.

Didn't beans have over 500 with their stage 2s. I can't remember the thread whether it was here or the old site.

Since I need an engine I would let Swamps throw it in my truck to find out what it puts down to the wheels. lol

First of all..No we are not. We have a great relationship with Ryan and his team but we are not affiliated with them. 2 totally seperate companies.

You have some kind of issue with us? It seems like you like to jab us when you can, which is your right to do. I'm just trying to figure it out to see if I can correct some past bad experience you may have had with us.

Let me know..feel free to pm or call me if need be.

Swamps....

Sorry for the derail. Great job with the motor. Love seeing the 7.3 churn big hp.
