I bought a 1996 ext can short box f-250 2wd with a blown transmission for a pretty reasonable deal. I am converting this truck over to a 4x4, 5spd with 06 f-350 axles and a 6.0 pump/e-fuel/tightwad mod setup on it. Everything I am doing is as budget minded and diy as possible. I have researched a lot on the cheapest ways to do upgrades to these old girls and am trying to implement some of those ideas into my build.

I bought bellows from summit racing and welded them into my up pipes. I got the idea from others that had done this before. I decided to weld the up pipes to the collector up top and make it into a one piece setup. With some jacking of the motor and playing around I was able to slide them in from the bottom with my transmission removed, I later pulled the turbo anyways but it is interesting to know that it can be done from the bottom

I am doing a budget fuel bowl delete/efuel setup on this truck as well, I am wrecking a 2006 f-350 and am using the fuel pump off of the 6.0 for my 96. I did the tightwad mod to remove the fuel bowl and retain the factory fuel regulator and avoid buying one. I also used the stock fuel supply line to the back of the heads, I used a 1/4 compression t changed over to a 3/8 hose barb to attach to the factory fuel supply line. That's all I really had to do to make it work in the valley, not the best setup out there but it is inexpensive and will work till I get injectors and a s366 setup in the not so near future. I was going to do my own wiring but found a driven diesel obs wiring harness on eBay for 75 bucks and always liked the idea of the 20 second timer if you turn the key on and don't start the truck up.

Oh I forgot to say that on the fuel system I didn't end up using the 6.0 fuel pump, for now I have a pump off of a 6430 john Deere tractor as my dad replaced it and then later found out the system was frozen at the check valve. It is a Bosch pump that looks a lot like the original ford pump on a superduty 7.3. We will see how it works once I get it on the road.

Have all of the spring buckets and brackets off of the superduty ready to go in the front end, also have everything from the 2wd stripped out, now I just need the time to install it.

Long overdue update, got buckets on the truck and the radius arm brackets. Installed the rear sway bar from the 2006, used the 96 speed sensor in the 06 rear axle.

Used the 2006 brake lines, did some flaring to make the lengths work and a little bending. Used the 2006 track bar bracket. I am thinking about deleting the front seat bar, not sure or I may build some brackets for it to work. A little stumped on what to do at the back of the truck? The 06 hose and line are a larger size than the 96. Is there any company that makes a fitting to size a line down or up for brake fittings ?

Used a 1996 brake hose on the 2006 rear axle, bolted on perfectly and all the lines threaded right in to it.

I have it driveable but not safetied yet. Getting a new windshield this week then have to hook up the e brakes for a safety. Probably get a wheel alignment just to be sure all is well before I put the new 35s on it. Other than that it runs good just have to figure out which glow plugs aren't working, starts ok but smokes lots till it warms up a bit
