I have a 96 powerstroke that's smoking blue at idle. I've also noticed smoke after coasting in gear to a stop. The idle speed seems to fluctuate a bit on the tachometer and I can hear it change also. Seems to shake more than it should until its above 1200 rpms. The truck sat in my garage for 2 years. I just got it back on the road two months ago. I put on a new hpop from terminator and a banks intercooler and a new low pressure pump as well. I also eliminated the crank vent into the intake because i noitced oil in the turbo. Truck has stage 1 injectors, 6 position chip, d66 turbo, modified idm all from beans diesel.

I'm thinking its a rear main seal. Its coming out of the inspection panel on the bell housing

I bet it's coming from the valley somewhere.
There's a drain at the back of the valley, everything runs down and comes out the cover.

Could be. I'll look next time I have the hood open. I just put a hpop in maybe I've got a line dripping. I replaced the pan n used plenty of the ford sealant so I know its not the pan. I'll look at the turbo pedestal too

Blue smoke is a bad sign oil past the rings or bad valve guides/seals, if it sat for two years most likely the valve seals have dried up and when you load the engine with the mods you have added the extra pressure the seals tend to leak on a decel when oil builds up around the upper area in the seal. I would pull the manifolds and look for traces of oil or wet ports, if its using oil block the breather off and pull oil cap, if you feel alot of pressure at 1000 or better rpm its hurt, if the blow by clears up, your probably alright. The oil leak is most likely pesky turbo pedestal orings, use ample amount of carb cleaner and brake cleaner and clean the valley throughly, the run the engine, it may be a line, but more or less turbo pedestal, they are annoying, done many of them.

My 95 OBS has hazed since the day I bought it 15 years ago. My Excursion hazes as well. Look for oil consumption first. As was said before. Fix the leak then you can tell if it's eating oil.
