97’ F-250 PSD Fuel tank issues

Where do I start with diagnosing my front tank always reading empty? Both tanks feed fuel and the truck will run on both but only the rear tank indicates its level. The switch has been replaced by the PO. Front tank sending unit? Rotted off gauge float?

I would guess the float has a pin hole and filled with fluid so it sinks. It could also be an electrical issue from with the sending unit or wiring. You'll probably have to drop the tank if its the float. You can check the resistance of the sending unit to make sure its within the normal range (145 ohms full and 22.5 ohms empty).
