I was driving home tuesday from work in the rain and the pickup just stalled while i was driving along. It cranks over good but won't fire. DP chip was still lit up but my edge scanner says the key was off even when on so i figured IDM. Swapped idm's and still no change. Relay #2 under the hood was ticking several times per second when the key was on. Fuel bowl was full of fuel as well. Had to get it towed.

Mechanic says he's baffled, his scanner reads that the HPO is good, cps is good, icp is good, ipr is good. Said he's getting smoke from the exhaust but it won't fire. Had the VCs off and checked wiring and verified it was fine but didn't do a compression test while the VCs were off. He has no clue what is wrong with it.

HELP ME PLEASE...i am working over 8 hrs from home and this is my only vehicle here...anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? I wouldn't think it would be a compression problem since nothing catastrophic seemed to have occurred when it stalled...any great ideas please call 419-438-5688

Thanks for the help

If the IDM relay is clicking, check your batteries (independently from one another, cables disconnected from both). If one is bad, replace them both. Check all the cable ends (both ends) to make sure they are clean and tight. Cheers!

Check fuse for the IDM in the under hood fuse box. IIRC it is #19. This is also the fuel bowl heater fuse which if it blows it will shut the truck right off and will prevent it from starting. If the fuse is blow it means the element or wire inside the fuel bowl came loose and shorted out. The quick and easy fix is to disconnect the wire on the outside of the bowl, replace the fuse and carry on.

Mine died at speed just cruising along and nothing. End up be the hpop pull the plug on top of your resiovor and see if it has oil in it.

On a limb, mine did this because wires in my shifter are chaffed and they grounded out. Run the truck thru gears and it is fine. Have had it ground out a few times, once while driving down the road.

Pulled the chip off the PCM and it hasn't done it again...yet. I had a DP tuner on there and it was taped to the PCM to keep it from coming loose but that seems to have been the problem. DP told me it had to be a connection error but i'm not completely convinced as it fits tight but I haven't pulled the PCM out to actually look at it yet. My ICP is also pushing oil and the IPR plug has been replaced.
