With the right tuning no. I run Jelibuilt tunes on my 1997. It runs better than my stocker ever did with same injectors. Under 1800 Rpm i don't really spool. from 2100-2800 she comes alive. Again im a much larger turbo with little larger nozzle than you are considering and I can spool to 34 PSI no sweat. I set my truck up so I can go 300/200's once I have a built trans. for now she is a fun truck. Ive towed 14k with it and i run it pretty hard with no issues besides my Overdrive slip when i push the truck past 90mph
I don’t see why anyone would really need the 1.0 housing unless you are running larger injectors. With 180/80’s I maintain a 1:1 boost/back pressure ratio all the way up to 43psi. And EGT’s are not a worry. I pulled my 11,000 lb cargo trailer up Monteagle (5 mile 6% grade) at 75mph and never broke 1150* and maintained around 30psi.
Been running a t-4 S 362 stock injectors 40 hp Ficm tune and I had my normal tune set to shift points where I drive because I drive a lot between 45-50 so now it goes on over drive at 45 works out good
