my point is that most cam suppliers claim their stage 1 cams are drop in. well i "dropped" it in and had issues. if it was a true drop in, i shouldnt technically have to check the things you mentioned because the stock cam worked fine.

I used 10+ stg 1 colt cams last year. And everyone of them fit fine. Yes they are a true drop in. Your engine had other machine work done, and you didnt make sure it was going to fit fine. Your fault. Not the cams fault...

I even used a colt stg 2 and it dropped right in. And me being a engine builder, i check everything, and assume nothing. You being a consumer that decided to do your own work, assumed, and got burnt. That's the difference. I warranty every engine i build. So i cannot leave anything to chance.

You also said that you shouldn't have to check anything because its a drop in, and the stock cam worked fine. Yo you took the stock cam out!! stg 1 has lift, duration changes. Why would you think you didnt have to check anything because the stock cam was fine? Thats just dumb.

Main reason i want to put the block together myself. Ive learned from my career that just taking someones word and putting things together doesnt work out. Im also very meticulous about my tolerances on my dies so i believe carrying that over to my motor would not only be good for the motor for my piece of mind lol

Not exactly sure why you're on a bender to chop me down?? not that i care-just trying to figure out if you have a major inferiority complex or whether you simply need to get laid.

my basic point was that these 6.4's can see some pretty high EBP numbers and the chance of floating valves is pretty likely. valve reliefs are good insurance for saving your bottom end if that occurs...an aftermarket cam increases this chance. i realize you are saying that if all tolerances are checked, it will be a non-issue i just think that it is easier to do reliefs at the start and not have to worry. esp if you were towing or racing and had a driveline failure of some sort and saw a flash of excessive rpms. just my opinion of course-its not like i think i'm God's gift to the diesel world...

oh and claps on the number of engine rebuilds

I'm not god's gift to the diesel world niether, and No your basic point was that drop in cams, are not drop in. Then you changed your basic point. (see text in red) I'm not here to cut anyone down. If me simply stating facts, that unfortunately uncover the mistakes you made hurts your feelings? Then seek help, or learn and do better next time. And what about the guys not doing pistons with whatever build they are doing? I'm sorry, but i don't see where me pointing out the obvious is cutting you down, other then your *butt hurt*...
