Same old story.. Cruising at 30mph when she blew. I have about 6 months and 10k on the build. Mods are in sig, bottom end is stock (for now)

4-450 is suppose to be a Safe level.. It was a gamble on my part. Some live at my hp level some don't.

Not a matter of a tuner battle.. Anyone at my HP levels is gambling on stock rods

I beg to differ, it has a LOT to do with tuning. That's why some live, and some don't.

Do you have a TS style chip?

I mean I semi agree with you. If I would have told my tuner to hold back a bit I might still have a working engine. But I didn't and would have never achieved the power goals i did with a conservative tune.

Ouch! I hope it wasn't a tuning issue because i think i read earlier a post about how great your tuner was, i feel for tho man, makes ya sick seeing that trail of oil

How do you know this for sure? Did you try a "conservative" tune from someone else? Compared them on the dyno? What constitutes a "conservative" tune? If the rod let go at 30 mph, I believe that's indicative of something. Too many guys out there running more HP on stock forged rods with multiple pulls and track runs before having issues.

I'm not being contentious for the sake of an argument, I'm asking deliberate questions and trying to get you to think about what you are saying. There is a reason some guys can run big numbers on stock forged rod motors.

One of the biggest differences I've been seeing in stock forged motors, and even built motors, is where in the rpm's power is being made. Hence the reason I said letting go at 30mph is indicative of something.

There have been several really good discussions on this, one that stands out is pontiacross thread on his motor that dynoed over 700 with Swamps tuning.

Sucks man!!! Its about a year ago now that mine blew. Not fun!! Seems this kinda thing is starting to happen more again. Guess guys are just pushing the limits harder because all we hear is that the tuning is getting better.

david tuned it and it ran strong. what ive read about them popping at lower speeds has to do with the rod already being hairline cracked and eventuallly giving up. I believe charles explained it "rods dont forget" meaning once you beat on it nice and hard it can develope a crack and its only a matter of time before it breaks. Regardless of who could have tuned it better, it should have been built from the get go.

and im not saying that there wasnt to much fueling going on down low which could have caused hairline cracks in the rods.
