Anti Theft Ideas?

So I'm in Houston for training. My truck was parked at the hotel that the training class is at. There is a security guard in the parking lot 24/7. Went to truck and notice the lock was punched out. Don't notice anything missing inside can't tell what they were after. Expensive sunglasses were left, passport escort left. What do you think they're after? I just purchased a house and had important documents in the truck. I just signed up for credit monitoring. Are 2015 Superduty's easy to steal? Anyone install jimmijammers on their trucks? Last time I was at this training 2 diesel's got their *** filter's sawed off in the parking lot.

Please let me know.

I'd guess guns, but it's hard to say. It seems like a thief will take anything. I've heard of gym bags being stolen from locked trucks...I think they'll take anything that *might* possibly have value.

I know a LEO that leaves his car unlocked and free of any belongings 100% of the time. He argues that a thief is bound to want in his car so when it happens, they won't have to damage anything. To him, it's a question of when, not if.

I'd suggest replacing that drivers door handle with a rear handle to d3lete the lock cylinder. Not foolproof, but hopefully deterrent enough to make a would be thief choose a different truck.

I replaced my driver door handle with a rear one to remove the key hole and I also installed Jimmi Jammer plates on all 4 doors to prevent them from prying up under the handles to release the locking rod. They can obviously still break a window etc but this takes care of the quick and quiet entry points

Add Remote Access. It will sense the shock, sound the alarm, and text you to let you know it was activated. It will also sound/text if a locked door is opened without being unlocked with the remote. Smash and grab thieves don't want attention.

Install a manual transmission. Has 7 positions of anti theft (if including the reverse) and a 3rd pedal to really confuse the thieves of this millennium.

Jimmi jammers for your door and tailgate.
Alarm to discourage punchouts or glass breakage.
Ravelco for those who have the means to bypass factory security.
Shotgun for that ballsy tow truck.

I've been interested in replacing my drivers door handle with a keyless one as well, but what happens if your battery dies? How do you gain access to the truck? The door keypad would be unusable with a dead battery, right?

Yep or get a set of leads off the battery and tuck them under the bumper/fender for access

What fun is that?

I'm kind of torn on this issue.

I completely get with the LEO is saying and have had that basic mentality where I live outside of town. The only time I ever lock my house is if I'm going out of town for a couple of days. I've had kids break in once before and having it locked just caused more damage to windows and doors.

When it comes to my trucks, if it's in my little town or an area I'm comfortable with I've been known to leave it running and go into the gas station. I don't worry about things there. When I go into the city, totally different story. I've had the passenger door lock punched and the passenger door handle popped while in ATL. The first time they grabbed my school bag. I'm sure they were looking for a laptop or something similar, but all they got was a pile of papers to be graded. My students actually thought that was pretty funny...

A few years later they went through the truck in a hurry. They cleaned out the glove box into the floorboard, opened the sunglass hatches, and had been going through the center console. As far as I can tell they ended up with a pair of scratched Maui Jims lol. My guess is they were looking for a gun. I never leave it in the truck when I'm downtown. They didn't touch my tools behind the seat or take the time to really look at what they were doing. I have a couple CDs in the center console rack and had about $60 cash in with them... it was still there. My spare IPR and a few other things were still there as well.

My 2012 6.7 was stolen right out of my driveway in holly ridge nc. Woke up at 0445 hit the garage door at 0500 no truck was gone. Found it 4 hours later sitting on blocks rims gone. I had my h&s in there my full kit for work flak jacket Kevlar thousands of dollars of gear from the marine corps. And all they took was my rims. I installed an viper 2 way security system and some security cameras on the house.

Dang, that sucks but, at least it wasn't worse I guess. I hear ya on the small town ways. Those kinds of places are getting harder and harder to find it seems.

Holy crap, definitely feel bad for ya. Though, I'm glad they didn't take your gear. Did your insurance company help ya out?
