Just going by what JW has told me, I'm no trans guy. I think the split was 95-96 IIRC, I guess you can tell by the casting number on the trans.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with 1997's being like 2-steps away from a 4r100?

If I remember correctly, there was an older e40d with a 4 bolt TC and weak internals before they updated it in '96 or '97

89-94 had the 4 stud converter. 95 is the update year.
