OK I am thinking about putting auto in my 97. Would a 4R100 out of a V10 bolt up? It looks like it would but are the internal parts the same as a diesel? Will the 4R100 work on a 97 or would I need the E4OD??

The tranny will get built to hold the power I have. I just get tired of shifting this 6 speed and towing with auto is sweet!

Also in if anyone has all the parts needed to put auto in a 97 PM me.

Yes the 97 has a 7.3 . I thought that but was not sure. From pictures i have seen the bell housing looks the same?? Why is that?

Thanks!

Behind the v10 it was a modular motor bell it would fit 4.6 5.4 and 6.8. The 4r100 will fit in your truck if it was behind a 7.3 just have to use mlp from e4od or update to newest plug design. 4r100 is better than the e4od a lot of the same components but some updates in the 4r make it a better unit.

Thanks for the help and Information!! I had heard the 4R100 was better then the E4OD.
I have a 99 I have thought about swapping out its auto for my ZF6. But would still need all the OBS parts to make it work.

I think you also have to use a SD PCM/harness when swapping in a 4R100. There's a speed sensor in the 4R100 that the E4OD doesn't have.

The 4R100 has two speed sensors. The E4OD has none that I've seen.

You don't need a different harness. The E4OD harness will work fine. Since the E4OD computer doesn't know about the 4R100 speed sensors there is no reason to connect them to anything. Just leave them in the trans to plug the holes in the case.

Thanks for clearing that up Mark!! What benefits is there to the 4R100 over the E4OD?? Or is there any real benefits?
