Axle gearing

I've had my truck for awhile now, and after I got it I learned it had the 3.31 gears rather than the 3.55s. Didn't bother me at all. Till I put 35s on it. Now I can't stand it. Truck is way slower, fuel milage went down the drain, and it's taking its toll on my torque converter taking off with heavy loads. How much would I be looking at coat wise for parts and labor to change my gearing to 3.55s? Or would I be better off to try to find 2 axles to swap in then sell my axles? If anybody on here wants to swap axles aswell I'd throw in some cash!

anywhere from $1400- $1800 , using all fomoco ring and pinion and spicer seals and bearings. that would include labor. and i agree with the power loss, i have same setup, but it has gotten a lot better with the turbo. you are just rolling around in a very low power zone, staying way below peak power.

If you're gonna re-gear why not go to 3.73s? Then with the 35s it would be like 3.55s with 33s. 33x3.73=123.09/35=3.52 gears. Just food for thought.

That's what I'm doing. Already have the gears.

yeah i would agree that a 3.73 is more fitting since the 6.7s have 2 overdrives, so if you are going to make the swap go to 3.73

Trucks would really shine with 35's and 4.10's..... IMO my 6.4 loved them especially for the amount of pulling I do. But this truck does well with 3.55's I might be prone to try a 3.73

I thought of that too, but they come from the factory with dang near 35s and 3.55s and I like how they run. So I figured id stick with 3.55s cause I know I'll be happy with the setup

yea i was actually just talking about that think im going to try 3.73 i have 3.31's now and 35's

what do you guys turn at 70? i think if i remember correctly im just at or slightly below 1500rpm

what do stock trucks with stock tires and 3.55's turn?

Same axle. Basic gears are 3.31 and 3.55 with 3.73s being special order afaik.

Drw are 3.73s with 4.10s being special order afaik.
