Any thoughts on an auto zone one? They are lifetime warranty. Its 160 plus its not remand, its 100% new. Got a couple quotes and they all were in 150 range. With like a6 month warranty. Hard to say no to a lifetime warranty

No!... That's what I thought, and I have gone through. 4 in 2 years. Voltage regulator fails every time.

Is the a rebuilder close. I have 120 bucks in rebuilding two alternators for my SD and one had to have half the housing. That was with factory motorcraft parts in it.

Any recommendations on a brand? Other than motorcraft, those are way to much.

alternators at advance or vatozone are lifetime, and some last well and some dont... i have the advance auto one in my dually and its been replaced once since put in 3yrs ago... also since my rclb truck takes the same one and the dorks that work there are to dumb to realize that the dirty azz alternator i just brought them is not the same one that was just replaced a month earlier. still exchanged it no questions ask.

Check and see if you have a local rebuilder in your area. You will find that they actually care about the product that goes out their doors.

As for a lifetime warranty or not, that warranty doesn't do you any good if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere when it dies or if there isn't a brand store where you bought it near by.

true that^^^… i have best luck around this entire country finding vatozone... i can usually find those better then the rest. advance, orielys and napa are second to autozone. i dont have a orielys near me here at home and napa doesnt have to much for lifetime warranty but i think sell more made in u.s.a. stuff.

I agree that parts store parts are probably going to be hit and miss. I have a napa reman for 2 years now with no issues though. I would also bet that the OE part from ford is made overseas as well.

I called Ford and the oe is made in Mejico. I found a couple us builders online so I might try them...or Autozone, I don't think I can go 2 miles without seeing one. The furthest I drive is about 3 hours so I'm not crazy worried about it. But I don't know, I went through this with my injectors too, just couldn't make a decision.

So i called a few shops and the cheapest quote i got to rebuild mine was 130. Send like a lot. I also asked if that was replacing everything internal and they said not usually, just the wear parts. I Did a ton of research and found a kit that replaces everything but the rotor for 140 and also upgrades it to 240 amp. Since I usually have the camper on there and an enclosed trailer that has a battery for lights I figured it would be a good upgrade. Any thoughts? I'll post a link to the site. I Have no fear of doing it myself.

Edit: here's the link

Have you had your alternator checked to make sure that is the problem?

I am almost certain that is your problem but. I would verify prior to spending money.

Actually no but i took the regulator off and the brushes were in pretty bad shape. I'm gonna take it today though when my son goes down. Haven't had any time. But I was able to take it out and hook the batteries back up and so far so good, batteries are still holding good voltage.

Just in case the alternator doesn't work, is it cold were you are? That can drain a battery quick! Any time it gets into the negative temps we shut all the ground disconnects off on our rental equipment at work. Works good for us. Tractors start every time when it get back in the 20's and 30's even when they have been sitting for a month or two. When my truck sit for a while (like it has this winter) I just pull my ground disconnects off the battery. Next year I will be installing ground disconnects on it to make it easier.
