Lance with JGS has corrected me...these are 40mm gates.
The problem is that the "gate" dumps to the hot pipe to help spool the primary...since that pipe already has pressure inside of it, the gate doesn't flow nearly as much as a gate dumping to the atmosphere.
So by adding another gate to the other bank, it will help equalize the drive pressure on both sides of the engine. (Not good having higher cylinder pressures on only one side)
I haven't seen too many gates on race trucks done correctly, now that I have seen how they are supposed to be positioned. A gate positioned at a 90* bend is pretty much the worst flowing, lowest efficiency position you could ever have...and then to dump it into a pressurized pipe....makes it almost completely useless. (Just look at mine, and what happened to the gate...)
