Best smoked taillights

I am getting Mink to do a set for me.

I'm kinda debating on going with the 2012 lights or not. I know you either have to swap harnesses or cut/splice and I'd rather not do that. IDK yet. My tails already look darker then normal SD's for some reason.

IDK, headlights and cab ligts first.

Yep vht is way better then the rusoleom. I tried the rustoleum first on a set and then vht on another set and I gave the can of rustoleum away. I'll never use it again. I've got to do some sets for some Mi members if they ever get them to me.Jt pic up some led tail lights so they are still real visible. I would not go more then two coats unless you really want them black. The guys with white trucks like them black with no red visible even in the sunlight so I do there 's in 3 coats but I like the 2 coats on anything else. 2 coats and in the sunlight the red will come through some like a black cherry color but look black when the suns not on them. 3 coats looks like those old smoked tail covers people put on and stay like that.
This is 1 coat which has quite a bit of red comming thru. he wanted the black cherry look to go with his maroon superduty. I was just seeing what they looked like on my old red truck before he picked them up.

This is 2 coats. even in the sun only a little red comes thru

You won't be sorry Marty. Mink did an amazing job on my lights. His mix makes these lights look ten times better than anything VHT.

FWIW I think tinted, the older style lights have a smoother look with the truck, the 08+ lights kinda have that ridge that makes the center part stick up, if that makes sense?

Either one will look good.

Rustoleum on mine. 2 coats, and I like the way it came out. Real glossy, smooth, seems to be holding up just fine.

Holy crap the guy charges that much for used lights that he tints. I guess I'm to cheap then. I charge $30 bucks to tint, clear coat , and wet sand followed by rubbing compound,polish,wax with a DA buffer. Ialways seem to charge to little though.

From the dead because I want to see where people have gone with this since 2012...

I've seen people doing that spray/dip tint on their lenses; I actually have my mirror and third brake lenses done in it and it looks nice!

Agree I smoked my mirror lenses and they look awesome. Would do that again instead of led crap ones and will tint my stock tail lights instead of buying the Recon's.

I just have my body guy paint mine......but a couple coats and some clear...have held up great and love the look.....just enough to make look good, but not enough to draw attention...

one of my good friends builds and does custom headlights also tails, this can include painting the insides of the tail which is A LOT better then "tinting" them.

PM me for details since hes not a vendor and dont wanna get in trouble

I know this is an old thread but how are you guys getting the backup light portion to stay clear? My lens doesnt seem to have any line to be able to cut along to make a "patch" before spraying. Any tips?

I covered that part with tape, then shined a flashlight from where the bulb goes in through the lens. That way you can see exactly where the edges are and cut the excess tape with a knife.

That's sounds easy but sure it isn't easy to get a straight line. Did you let the tint dry before removing the tape?
