Turbos will obviously be thrashed. I wouldnt worry about the engine if no material got past the intercooler. The engine will shut down on its own if it gets oil starved, so you should be OK in that respect. No way of knowing until you get it apart.

I would pull and replace the turbos, IC.

Keep hearing bad news about them batmos... What let go? Wouldn't it just blow all the guts out the down pipe? Motor sounds fine idling?

Low pressure batmo is just a cone. I have the stock hp compressor wheel and already got a new lp turbo from ford. Gotta take them out and pray the hp turbo will b ok with just a new wheel. Will start in am. I'll keep ya'll posted. Thanks fellas. If it's just the lp, I'll take it. My racing days are over

your racing days shouldn't be over... your days of using known problematic Batmo's should be over. its one of those live and learn things, but hopefully theres no engine damage and its just new turbos and IC and your back running. if nothing else its a good learning experience swapping the turbos cab on and you'll know how to do it for down the road when you upgrade them

I'm aware of the mechanics of a 6.0 or 7.3 shutting off when out of oil, but what mechanism shuts down the 6.4?

Batmos are a bad idea if you don't balance then. A tire out of balance is bad and they only rotate maybe 600 times a mile. And a turbo is about 100,000 a minute. Just upgrade to a 71 or 72 and call it a day. If you don't replace the IC I would makes to flush it really well. When you think your done, flush it two more times

When the oil level gets to low, it will throw the truck into limp mode long enough for you too come to a stop and then the truck will shut down and not turn back over.

At least that's what mine did when my turbos let go.

You may have gotten lucky. The only thing that could put it in limp mode would be the oil pressure switch, which will go open at a very low psi. If you are spinning high rpms when the oil pressure drops off opening the switch, the engine will probably be toast. It isn't like a HEUI, where the engine looses power and stalls as soon as the oil pressure begins to drop.

Nothing shuts them down. And honestly the failsafe HUEI story on the 6.0/7.3 doesn't happen in a WOT situation, it might save you if you lost all the oil at idle but otherwise that's just wishful thinking. I have destroyed more than a few 6.0's that only had 35 psi at 5500 rpm.

Guess I was lied to. A tech and I went for a drive afterthey did some work on the the truck and an oil line on the filter was not tightened up and ended up dropping about 1.5gal on the road. I was worried and he told me the truck would shut down if oil pressure dropped. Live and learn.

I was going to say the same thing. Ive lost a few LPOPs at WOT on the ranger. It toasted both turbos bot the truck still ran about half way down the run down before it died.

Well, after a fun day of replacing the atmo and the compressor wheel on the vgt, we started it and the vgt is bad. So it's coming back apart I guess. Do U guys know if I can just buy the cartridge for the vgt? Don't really wanna have to buy the whole 1700 dollar turbo. So pissed right now, lost the whole weekend and about 2700 bucks once I replace the vgt. Such a defeated feeling

Vgt is bad as in the thrusts are out of it? If so, hit up Barder Turbo. He may be able to help you out.
