The BPD is $220? $220-$120 = $170??? The BPD appears to be a better unit, but I guess we wont know. Are the fins on the Alliant unit flexible?

My bad, I thought it was more like $290. No, the fins seem to be solid to me. Still $100? I guess unless someone can prove that this pump cavitates or doesnt flow enough or hold up, I guess I will try it and see.

This isnt to say that the BPD pump isnt a quality unit or worth the price but was more concerned because I already have the pump I have.

The fins on the BPD pump look to be the same as OE except for the material they are made out of. Does your pump have the standard sheet metal fins like the SBC pumps?

anyone know if the rubber o-ring is suppose to fit snug on it cause the one that came with mine just slips over and is really loose. There's probably around 1/8th gap between the o-ring and the shoulder of the pump....you can see it in the first pic.

Not sure if anyone has used one of these pumps (to verify if it is any good or not) but this is what I bought before I found out about the BPD pump. It is an Alliant OEM replacement pump that I bought off Ebay for $120. I still have the original on there right now and seems to be doing just fine. I'll probably change it out when I get around to doing the Electric Fans.

Hey how about pimpin' out the part number?? I love the free market competition!!

Plastic fins on the waterpump, how halfass is that?? Bulletproof pump looks...bulletproof. Does it flow different than stock?

The main reason oem manufacturers used "plastic" impellers is to stop/prevent cavitation from the SCA/DCA levels in the coolantbeing out of range. Since the coolant technology has changed over the last few years there isn't much cavitation happening at the waterpump. Manufacturures are starting to go back to back to metal impellers, but see it still cheaper for them to make plastic impellers...

cav·i·ta·tion (kv-tshn)

2. The pitting of a solid surface.
3. Medicine The formation of cavities in a body tissue or an organ, especially those formed in the lung as a result of tuberculosis.

As long as it doesn't get pitched between the pump and housing you will be fine.
I just put a little o ring grease on it first. (Dow Corning 55 o ring grease)

Like I said earlier....only thing I hate about them is that you can't see the inside from the outside....and now it's worse...you cant see the billet that they use on the outside for the housing now either.:(

What's the point of the full billet unit? What's the cost on that?

Ken said he has too much trouble getting cores for the standard water pump with his billet impeller. Once the testing phase of this all billet pump is complete that is all BPD will offer.

didn't realize they offered a full billet unit over the other one they already offer.

They don't yet. I have the first one.

The early '04 and '03 Alliant pump can be had for around $75. Both the early and late versions have a metallic impeller. I'll post up part numbers later today when I get in off the road.
