I agree Dustin. Think there is more to it than meets the eye. However, in design, I think they are a true 'traction' bar, as the axle tries to wrap the caltrac can actually put additional downward force on the axle aiding in traction. Regular bars just prevent axle wrap, nothing more.

The Cal-Tracs made my lowly 450hp 2wd truck at least a little bit useful on the street. Without them it would just spin until you lifted, with them it would just chirp tires on the shifts, but then they'd plant and go. Money well spent.

I agree 100% I do think that a traditional traction bar still provides some downward movement just not in the same manner. I put on a set of traditional ones this last week and could actually tell a difference...again not the same tho

I see what some of you are saying. On a 4wd application they may be far from the best option. Tho on my 2wd I noticed a huge difference. Before I would spin 1,2,3,4 then start to hook. After the instal I would spin 1st, chirp second and maybe a tiny chirp into third.

I did play with adjustments a lot! They weren't just bolt in and forget about them that's for sure. As well mine aren't that noisy. I can tell they are there but really no big deal to me.

Ryan I think they are great if you are looking to hook harder at the track. If you are looking to control axle wrap there are better options

I've seen Caltracs launch the rear end of a 4x4 truck a foot off the ground at the strip. Carnage was knarly.

.

There used to be a video of a truck on the street that hopped dangerously with them on as well. It was taken down off you-tube...

While that may be the case on some vehicles, I have never had any axle wrapping issues with them. Not even the slightest incline of it.

You are correct tho, there are better options for just a axle wrap controller bars.

Take it for what Its worth, I'm happy with my Caltracs.

Anyone want to buy a nice used set?

J/K, I just had too, lol.

I haven't paid much attention to how they operate with a load in the bed. Guess ill have to figure that out before buying a few more sets for some other trucks.

I pulled over 10k with mine on and it only squatted my truck about 2-3 inches. Keep in mind I have no overloads the top or bottom. It towed great. Dad used it yesterday to go pick up parts, had over 2k in the bed and he said it rode and drove great.

Good to know, I've only towed 5k and I was impressed, but really didn't have any weight in the bed.

I want to install a set on my SD that I use to tow regularly.

Just got some polyurethane bushings from Calvert to around the pin that rides on the springs. Just called them and asked and they shipped them right out, no charge. Should help quiet the Caltracs down for street driving.
