Catch cans, effective?

Thanks, I know the elements are available. I'm thinking <= $26 is a lot for a piece of plastic and some fuzz. I'm going to try and and identify the media used on the element and just buy some, remove the old media and glue the new media on the element frame. I have purchased media "cut offs" dirt cheap in the past.
