Hi, guys. Just wanted to say "HI" and introduce myself. My name is Mike and I don't drive a :fordoval: but i have spent a lot of time with them over the years. I've got a 2006 Cummins and an '85 300D for diesels. I work at Adrenaline Truck Performance doing a few different things like Cummins tuning, sales, tech support, and some shop work. I will be spending a little time on here along side Cody. Let us know if there is anything that we can help you out with!

Ok, ok, I will be sure to use more "F" words than "C" words :D I wouldn't mind having a 6.4L in a restored OBS with a ZF6 :ford:

thats just chummings talk.... you can make enough power with a 7.3 to hurt a zf6 so why even bother with a swap...

LOL why not? I like watching people make their lives difficult to do a swap. I've wanted to do a newer motor swap into a restored 50s/60s model, but that's WAY down the project list. I've got a 70s model getting a 7.3 to finish first.

At least it would be :ford:, you can't really complain about that.

To be honest I would never actually do it because of the cost and time in involved, but I think it would be a fun combination. I would be more likely to look at something in the 95-02 range. That being said an IDI with a turbo would make for a nice inexpensive camping/utility truck. I like the way the exhaust on those trucks sound too.

Negative. IDI with a turbo is a waste of time and energy.

Just a difference in opinion. :) I wouldn't spend the money to buy a turbo and install it. It would have to be already on the truck.

I'm going to cut you some slack since you are a cummings guy...
yeah, the nostalgia is there and in theory I agree with the turbo IDI being an inexpensive camping/utility rig, but not in practice. I'm assuming you've ridden in one? Ever have to tow with it? When you're a high school kid and you're trying to improve the only truck you can afford I get spending the time if you have access to the parts. Otherwise just buy an OBS, which is what the only person I've known that bothered doing the swap ended up doing.

Thanks for cutting me some slack :D

Yeah, I have driven quite a few of them and ridden with a buddy towing that had one. I started working with them about 12years ago when I started turning wrenches for a living. I have installed turbo kits, "tuned" pumps on a dyno, replaced injectors, trannys, and done other troubleshooting/repair/maintenance over the years. I know that they are not powerhouses, and not the best riding chassis out there. They kind of remind me of my old diesel Mercedes for simplicity and reliability - they just keep on going. Just some of my thoughts anyway.

I think I will stick with my restored OBS with a 6.4 and a ZF6 idea as something to keep me busy if i win the lottery "just because I can" truck.
