I ran a 3" downpipe and gutted the cat.... I would like to throw on an elbow right off the cat and come up through the bed with a single stack....

probably 4" plain old steel pipe ... nothing fancy...

will I be OK for emissions testing?

do they just stick the wand into the stack to take readings? I assume they do a visual check for the cat... so I'm safe there.

I see a lot of guys clearly running open pipes no cat and stacks...

how are they getting through emissions?

my truck has gone through emissions twice with a 3 inch dp and 5 inch exhaust and didnt have an issue either time, are you sure your not mistaking a resonator for a cat? these trucks didnt have cats on them far as i knew they just put the sniffer in the exhaust and spin it on the rollers. if my setup passes yours will

Just a FYI all 94.5-97 model year trucks with the 7.3 DI engine came with a cat. If you have a doubt check the emission sticker on the valve cover.

Most joints don't care about the exhaust. They are looking for smoke and your $20. bucks.:D

Not mistaken, it "was" definitely a cat. But now it's a "resonator" :D

I wanted to leave it just in case they do a visual inspection.... but it's empty.

On my 95 it is right under the passenger side door. The downpipe goes directly into it (bolts to it)

I ended up cutting the stock exhaust and welding it up shorter

It comes out of downpipe into an empty cat then kicks out before the rear tire
Looks and sounds good
But heres the thing...
The idiots at superior transmission in waterbury refused to test because it dont go out to the rear bumper
I tried to explain to them that unless you have a camper or cap on the back the exhaust can dump out just past the cab....
They claim Connecticut just changed all the rules....

So I go down to montambolts and they say I am perfectly legal and I pass with flying colors....

However
They did say there ARE new connecticut rules
They are new specifications on pipe size and a mandatory visual inspection for cat.
I asked him what about all the guys running 5" stacks??
He said we will not test them.
So,
Just an FYI for connecticut guys....

Heres a pic before I welded the pipe to the cat.

Yup more bs for ct, i'm uprating my gvw on my 97-f350 to 10,001 its gonna me a little extra but it will be well worth not having to deal with emissions if i keep it. I literally just put a 3" downpipe and 4" straight piped exhaust on it 8 months ago and it was perfectly compliant with emissions. One requirement for my 6.4 was it had to have a gvw over 10,000lbs so it would be emissions exempt.

Do you know what the cost difference will be? To register at 10,000lb ?
Curious...
Im registered at 9000 right now and its $232.00 for 2 years....
Also ,
As you can see by my test results the entire testing system is horse****
It's clearly a money grab situation for Connecticut

I am also curious to see if the testing stations are going to stick to their guns or if they're going to let you slide

Supposedly there are large fines for the testing stations

So I think the guys with stacks on the trucks are screwed

It might be another 100 dollars or so. I'm not doing it save the 20 dollars i don't care about that. I just don't wanna have switch my exhaust to anything. I heard from others one of the new laws is you can't have a tail pipe bigger then 3" on anything.

I hear ya...

And yes that's what the kid at the second-place told me they were most concerned about....
The size of the exhaust pipe
He said four-inch maximum but who knows...
He also said they want to see a cat...

I guess for the guys with stacks the only other option is to swap your exhaust every two years which sucks balls
Or register big and pay close to 350 bucks every two years

I got to get out of this state

Just filled both tanks yesterday cost me hundred and twenty bucks...

If you can,
Post up a pic. of the results sheet.
I am curious to see the limits on your truck/year...

2 years ago my limit was 20 this year it is 40

guess it goes down as the truck gets older...

little stroker, YES they put a load on it.
