Oil was changed religiosity. .. if 6oh is local, i think he knows the owner. This is why this failure was such a shock

It also wasn't the use of aftermarket oil filters. Looks like this thing had the original cap on it. You can tell years of removing it with channel locks. LOL

That's a bummer about the lifter :(

All the lemmings talk about how horrible the 6.0's are about head gaskets, EGR coolers, etc.

Lifters are the true Achilles heel of the 6.0

Thankfully is rare enough to not loose much sleep over.

Dude this is not a rare failure... I have had them fail as low as 55k.

I've probably done 11 motors this year due to lifter failure

We've yet to see one. Which is odd because we work on probably 5-10 trucks a week typically.

Head gasket, injectors, EGR, FICM, high pressure pump, oil cooler, etc. All FAR more common than lifter failure in my experience, and none nearly as damaging or expensive

I picked up a cam local last night. Looks like one lobe got kicked on its way out of the block, but nothing too serious. I'm going to send it in along with my heads today to get polished and specd out. Probably going to have them do valve seals also and inspect guides

Debating breaking down the heads myself. The shop wants way too much to do the work.

How often do guides go bad?

Yes. I may break down the valves myself though. 600 each head for guides is a little high IMO.

I broke down 2 valves. Both on the rocker with the failed lifter. Looked amazing, no scoring what so ever, came right out, went right back in, no issues. So their getting decked n checked right now. Cams going in to get polished

2 lifters failed. Neither spit bearings out. But the rollers are intact, just very chewed up
