damage to custom built y pipe

this is that pipe i built awhile back. this happened at the track saturday.

looks to me like the collector rotated on the turbo

yeah because the bellow blew out and pushed it outwards. did it explode the vband clamp?

are those extreme duty 100+ psi bellows?

You need to order up some bellows from Jake at Irate Diesel Performance.

Mine have seen over 100 psi several times, and have not failed yet. **Knocking on wood**

Where do these 100 psi bellows come from?

While that pipe is out,im cuting in a gate(46mm percision)

In all honesty. That pipe will be bellowless by the weekend. I will not put up with that ****.

I got my braided stainless steel ones from Jake, at Irate Diesel Products....:shrug:

I have other ones that braided exterier. And they look like rthey have flex pipe running through them. Vibrant calls it interlocking liner. They dont recommend them pre turbo use.

The ones i destroyed have a steel liner like the factory ones do. They just dont neck down through the bellow. Vibrant say to use these pre turbo.

Although i have used the other one without failure.

The one you described as having a interlocking liner, sounds like the ones I have....
My EGT probe is in my exhaust manifold, and I have buried it past 1600*F, and have seen 100 psi drive pressure more times then I'm comfortable with...



...course, I'm not using BO head gaskets anymore either...:D

They make a couple different types.... as Im sure you are aware. ATPturbo, ExtremePSI.com and Elite can get you the parts. Thats who I use

The vibrant interlock will hold 80 psi. Past that its becomes questionable. I started to expand an interlock around 90+ backpressure.

We used some inconel units on Godzilla and they held 150+ psi. Rod didn't withstand it though :cursing:

What are used on your up pipes for the 6.0L?

Do you guys offer divided up pipes with T4 flange for the 6.0L?

good to know. i have a pair of interlocks here.

however im still considering making this pipe solid.

i am cuting a gate in,so prolly the interlocks will be fine.

i cant see any issue with gating the charger at 45psi,as its prolly out of its map,somewhere around there anyhow.

I wanna set that has a "balance tube" between the two up pipes, and have a gate off of it there, so it can be tied right into the bend out of the secondary, shooting straight down the pipe to the primary.

For single turbos, it could be tied right into the down pipe...

its going to vent to atmo right now,i would need some small little vband(which i dont have),to tie it back in with the downpipe.

once the truck is lit i dont think it will burn to dirty(it doesnt right now),but we will see once bobs billet hvhpop goes in?
