I have a F-450 that I bought and I am thinking about converting it to 4x4. I have a trans and transfer case already. Just need the front axle.

Are the 350 and 450 units completely different or only have differences in the knuckle/hub/adapters?

I have found a few 350 axles for a good price but no luck with the 450 units.

year(s) of each vehicle?

I'm99% sure they all/both use D60's now...earlier trucks (pre 2001?) used D50 fronts on the F350 SRW trucks I believe.

Yes the super 60 is correct. Ring and pinion are the same but axle , steering knuckle, unit bearings, ball joints , and tie rods are all bigger. Finding one of those is like finding gold. 05 up are coil spring and 99-04 are leaf. 05 up are also 10 lug bolt pattern to fit 19.5 wheels. Earlier models I believe were 8 lug pattern to fit 19.5 wheels.

Most 450's had 430 gears or lower. And the rear axles are narrower so that would make the front a little narrower. I found a sweet 99 450 with Rv hauler bed. Best driving 7.3 I've ever ridden in or drove. 2wd though. There's a guy up by me works on a lot of big work trucks. Whenever he gets in a nice 450 or 550 4x4 he'll buy it and sale it. There's a lot out there gear too low for me.
