Looking at doing a built trans in the future. I have a few ideas... Firsts is doing a full build my self. Next is buying a fully built one.... Third is putting a convert in it and billet input shaft and see how long it last. Goal for the truck is 600hp it will get used at the track maybe a sled pull. Also will have to do tow duty every now and then.... I'm a budget minded guy so input on how hard it is and what parts to use would be great...

I wouldnt even think of building one without doing it before. These trans are not as easy as you might think. Especially if you are going to do diffenrent clutching and steel and all the hydrolic upgrades. I would leave it for the pros and just buy one that comes with a warrenty.

You have to start somewhere, no one is automatically born a pro. Most learn from trial and error. I myself wouldnt in a million years try to do a trans myself, screw that.

I would recomend just paying the piper. This way if your trans craps the bed in a month, year, or even two, you are not throwing money out the window. Thats a lot of money to throw out the window if you set a clutch wrong or dont get something just right for your setup. Just my $.02

The biggest requirement for a special tool is to replace the low/reverse piston. If the low reverse is working fine you wouldn't have to replace that piston though.

Pump alignment tools are also a good idea, unless you buy a rebuilt pump.

We offer all the kit pieces for anyone wanting to build their own.

I am subscribed. I am fixing to drop my trans next week to rebuild it. I cant get the above picture to load that zmann attached, so i dont know what the tool list consists of. I have friends that have pulled their own trans, and say its not too bad, but not a walk in the park. I am just planning on installing a PI stallion, billet input shaft and a new GoGo solenoid.

OP, are you showing symptoms of your trans going out?

At 600hp call bts and be done. I was going to build my own, but I went the bts route since I know it will handle it or Brian will fix it. Brian has proven to build trans that hold that power with ease.

I bought Elite's Competition kit, Tadd has been very helpful with it all.

A lot of those tools arent needed. Well you need something to.perform the task but you can buy punches that will remove roll pins. A torque converter handle? Come on! Grab that ***ker, turn it counter clockwise and pull out. 40ish lbs.

I was told that with a good tune, i shouldnt need a GoGo solenoid, however im slipping BAD in third, fourth and fifth. First and second are still solid gears and pull somewhat strong. I have, im my opinion, the best tune loaded that money can buy.

Just to clarify I am not saying you need all the tools on the list

or can't replicate them at home
this just gives an idea of what they look like

Email headed your way
