Down pipe question

Friend has a 08 that currently has a dpf back on it. He's getting ready to get the dpf delete from the down pipe back. Should he get the down pipe also. It's roughly around 280 $ for the down pipe. He thinks it may not be worth the extra money right now. So the question's are, how much power and mpg's can one expect to gain ,if any? How restrictive is the stock down pipe? Any ideas where to get one cheaper?

The stock down pipe is very restrictive. It is a double walled crimped POS. I'd post pictures for you but I haven't got the adequate post count yet. I would highly recommend he get the DP. Couldn't tell you what type of power he'll see, or mileage, but I can tell you EGT's will be cooler.

You won't really gain a whole lot from the down pipe, there will be some gain but not tremendous. At least I don't think so, but it has to help some and once you get the 2 piece one its easy to remove/put on for other "needed" upgrades. I would also reccommend the street diesel performance down pipe. Plus just because its cheaper really doesn't mean you should get that one. Not all parts are created equal. Just my $.02

Stroked777 any idea were she got it? He was told that delete systems are getting harder to find now because of the EPA cracking down on companies. So he figures get the delete pipe now and then later get the down pipe. Anyone heard this? He says his money is a little tight right now. He's also getting a tuner that is tuned for the delete from a site sponsor. I'll past all this info to him and see if it changes his mind. Thanks for your help.

I think she got it from alligator performance. Part number SS-603 I believe. I got the one with bungs because it was they system I wanted but I didn't need it with bungs but didn't have that option so I just cross threaded blots in there and cut them flush

I went with diamond eye and it was like 300 bucks for turbo back. Had no issues. Getting ready to order 2 more for my other trucks as well. They are not stainless but not worried abkut them rusting out as I won't have the trucks forever and the last diamond eye was on for 4 years or so with no issues befkre truck was sold.

People compare all the time but I haven't had any fitment issues and am not real interested in paying almost double for lazer etching names into std pipe

i was under my truck yesterday and noticed rust on my SS exhaust not happy about that

What's the reason for the bungs? I assume the sensors. If you get the off road tuner do you need the sensors? Looking into Alligator now for info for him.

Depends what tuner. Sct you need them and spartan you don't. H&S I'm not sure if you need them.

He's getting the SCT. So it sounds like there is no immediate need to do something now because of lack of availability? He was lead to believe otherwise. From what has been relayed, it looks like not. He want's something now, but hopefully he will look a little more now.

Most stainless exhaust systems are made from T409 stainless, unless stated otherwise. Some surface corrosion on 409 stainless is normal. Most of the quality exhaust tips out there are made from T304 stainless which Should never show any corrosion. An easy way to tell what stainless you have, 409 is magnetic, 304 is not.

H&S does not require any DPF sensors.
