Using BP could give a better picture of how much load the engine is under.

Yeah...until you get out of a 1:1 ratio, which I imagine is pretty quick.

Anyone with a stock turbo got a moment to run a datalog on boost/ backpressure?

Kinda curious now.

With the wastegate connected or not? I have one with the WG disabled. At 23PSI of Boost EBP is 38PSI

That still doesn't explain why they went with back pressure instead of boost pressure.

If i get a chance tomorrow i can get my AE out and data log it.

Okay....so if the turbo is boosting 20 psi and backpressure is at 21 psi - then a few moments later is is boosting 23 psi and backpressure is 34 psi - which gives you a better indication of the load the motor is under?

Just my guess why Ford did it this way, but I am sure they had their reasons.

I thought boost and backpressure were more proportional than that. How can 2 more psi of boost = 11 more psi of BP? Not tryin to argue at all, just tryin to understand.

Just so you know that was a stock tuned truck, stock exhaust w/muffler delete, stock turbo with wastegate disconnected. The run was getting onto the interstate form about 14mph to 65mph, so there was a shift that you can see as well.

So in a six speed truck it is completely worthless..........

Apologies for reviving an ollllldddd thread, but................Uncool had a good question ( at least to me ) : the EBPS in a 6-speed is pretty much worthless?

Is that a fair assumption?

Like what in the tuning?

MY sensor is still screwed into the mount and plugged in, but the tube has been removed and plugged for 7 years. Have made as much as 670 rwhp with it not reading anything but ambient air.

The EBPR controls the actuation of the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. On the exhaust side of the turbo there is flap mounted in a housing that can block exhaust gas from entering the tail pipe. This flap will close off the exhaust gas and increase back pressure on the engine to help aid in engine warm up in cold weather.

The EBPR is mounted in the turbo mount housing and uses lube oil that is directed to the turbocharger to control the movement of the exhaust back pressure valve. The PCM will open and close the exhaust back pressure valve by actuating the EBPR from information provided by the EBPS.

So how again does this effect tuning?
