Engine oil temp ranges??

Maybe the heat is higher after it leaves the HPOP and the injectors, due to the high pressures.

I wonder if it cooler there because it has more airflow from the fan?

Back when I went through mechanics school years ago, we were taught that oil temp should be within 20 degrees of the water temp if the cooling system was working properly.

Not sure if this still applies to the newer engines.

The scan gauge reading lower than water temp may be do to sensor location or accuracy of the sender/gauge.

Guages or a scan guages are far better than the factory installed indicators but are not dead on accurate. Just my two cents.

I need to investigate this some more. AE and the scan gauge are not in agreement running down the highway. AE says oil is hotter then coolant and scan gauge says it is lower.

Tom, I pulled my 30' camp trailer up Malad pass in Idaho and my EOT stayed a consistent 15* to 20* hotter than my ECT. Those readings are with my AutoMeters.

I will have the opportunity here soon to test the Oil temps with and IDS vs the scan gauge here in a couple of weeks so that should be interesting. Something is off and I am thinking maybe the scan gauge might be off like 10%

At what oil temp should you be looking to rebuild your oil cooler?

My EOT runs 220-225 per my Scan Gauge. No numbers for my ECT, but per the dummy gauge is runs between the R and the M with a Diselsite 203 t-stat, Evans coolant, 0 psi cooling system, new radiator, Schaeffers 9000 5W40 and an Adrenaline HPOP.

Can it be a clogged oil cooler?

According to testing anything below 190 degrees causes significant increases in parts wear. The curve is very steep from below 190 down but flattens out considerably from that point up to what ever temp the particular oil formula starts to break down. Premium syn diesel oils are rated to extended periods up to 300+ degrees.

As other have said in general 190-230

I do not have a way to test ect, but on my Scangauge my eot stays between 210-217 in warm weather.
