At some point/year did the fender openings get larger (and able to accommodate larger sized tires) on the super duty? Lets EXCLUDE those trucks with fender flares for the sake of this conversation. I have read that some trucks you can put 35s on from the factory, is that bc Ford increased the "lift" of the suspension or bc the fender openings are larger?

I'm fairly confident they are all sized the same. I have ran 35s on every single one of my 10+ superdutys all the way from Early 99 to late 2008 and I know plenty with 35s on 6.7s. None of mine rubbed. I even had 37s on an early 99 without a lift, rubbed very little after a little trimming.

I just compared a 99 to a 2017 truck. The 2017 fender openings are at minimum 2" larger in every direction. It's hard to get a very accurate measurement with the tires installed. My measurements are conservative.
