is KEM the only company out there offering custom tuning for the FICM flash - and by custom I do not mean just programming the older flash file from Ford. I mean being able to call up the tune writer and tell them you have bigger injectors and have them write a file custom for your setup. I know Mike is doing this over at KEM. What is ID/PHP/Swamps doing as far as their programming?

Thanks guys

Well while I dont think PHP or IDP use an older ford flash for their "performance" tuned FICMs and I dont know exactly what their tuned FICMs consists of, it does appear that there isnt any configuration for larger injectors or things of the "custom" sort. I am pretty sure that is solely done by Mike at KEM. Now of course his tunes for FICMs are $300 where IDPs tune is like $200 and PHPs tune is $150 I believe. I could be wrong but from what I have read, it appears that while both IDP and PHP offer a "performance" tune of sort for a FICM, I would liken it to a canned tune for an ECM. JMO. Take it for what it is worth.

I'm getting the 58v mod at swamps, Dave said he'll send it to Innovative for aggressive tuning for 150.

Hang tight for a while and IDP will offer remote FICM tuning. KEM is really the only tuner that offers "true custom" FICM tuning. The rest offer more than just an older FICM tunes, but they are more or less "canned" tunes.

Well how would you describe FICM tunes from everyone but KEM?? They seem to me like they are designed to run good with most setups but not a particular one.

FICM Tuning

From my understanding Mike is the only real FICM tuner unless things have changed, he is the one who made the software and worked for International. The rest of the FICM tuners have access to good files , that are better than some. I have tried them all , and thus far KEM custom tune works the best for me. Everybody's truck is different, and maybe some run better with others but you have to try them all like I did , to know the facts.

i'd like to hear from Bill and Eric about this, I dont believe in the "Mike is the only true custom FICM tune" bull crap being spread all over the place by people who "think" thats the case.

Well I have to say that from all of the reading I have done, this is kind of a mute point IMO. I mean lets face it. We know that a tuned FICM from PHP (and probably IDP as well) will net 30-40Hp more than what a stock/factory programed FICM will (as illustrated on PHP's website). We also know that PHPs tune is the least expensive at $150, IDP is next at $200, and KEM is the highest at $300. Now I would be willing to bet that even with the KEM tuned FICM one would be hard pressed to gain much more than 40hp but even if you gained 60hp over the stock/factory programming, I would still say that PHP's tuning is the best bang for the buck. At $150 for 30hp that is $5/hp which isnt bad IMO and IF KEM's tune netted 60hp, one would still be paying the same amount for hp as someone who got the PHP tune but the difference is that the guy who bought the KEM tune has to get 60hp or else he is paying more than the guy who only has to get 30hp. I know I know these are just figures to give some relevance to the subject. We know that tuned FICMs perform better and add HP compared to stock FICMs and the differences are going to be small and subjective between all of them IMO. JMOs.

I highly doubt the custom ficm tune will net you more power, it may run smoother and power delivery may be different. I'd like to see the difference between the three.

I believe eric had mentioned over a few years ago when he first did FICM tuning that 25-30hp was achieved with it.

Thats what I am talking about Greg. I am sure all of these guys tuning make more power and I am sure they are all similar power gains - but I am more interested in how one of the other might help the truck run better, start smoother, etc. etc.

oh im not saying it wont net HP

I was saying, i doubt the KEM tune wont net more power than the PHP or IDP ficm tuning...

I agree and using the definition of "running better" to differentiate between tunes is kind of ambiguous IMO and subjective. I know for me if the truck starts, doesnt lope, and doesnt run like it has stiction; I would say it runs fine.
