If the pin weight is 2700 then the squat will be in the 3" range I bet. If you don't have the upper overloads put air bag on it.

I have a class A commercial drivers license. I'm very aware of the differences in hauling behind a dually and bigger. However I'd prefer not getting rid of a truck for an extra set of tires. This the reason I inquired about add ons or conversions. Trading my truck in is a last resort.

The truck will handle it. I've never ran air bags, but that's me.
As you know, if your axle isn't over weight no worries.

Or a timbren type of load support. I chose the firestone version for mine. I just have to build some brackets.

They are more like a huge rubber bump stop that acts as a spring. They add something stupid like a couple grand to the load support. The firestone and aircell styles are about a grand.

Side note, are you IBEW?

It isnt the weight that is the issue, in my opinion... The wind, was the great azz kicker.... these things make plenty of power, and the springs are strong enough. I had fat tires on 20 x 10 rims, and 4.10 gears. The 13 foot 6 inch sail swinging behind a SRW truck is the unfixable issue... Like ForceFed said, we both learned the hard way...

If you arent forced to be anywhere, and can squat for an extra day or so to avoid bad weather, you should be fine. If you dont have that kind of lee way, ehhhhh.... I wouldnt....

agreed.. pulling a enclosed snowmobile trailer, 20 ft long, only weighing 5-6k pounds about put me in the ditch several times.. I was down to 20 mph just to keep it on the road.. this of course coming from Rawlins to casper... anyone who has been here knows... 80 mph gusts that night 65 mph constant. even saw a 6 place heavy gooseneck blown over in the ditch...1 ton dually wouldn't have helped me. wind is 90% of it imo

Have towed with both and honestly. Unless the weight is that much more. Between traction bars and airbags mine is soooo much better. Wind never bothered me but I haven't had much more than 20-30 mph crosswinds where I travel. Also I travel all night most times for ease of travel without traffic. I will say duallies are wonderful when in a lock up or quick avoidance situation but my 3/4 ton does just fine. Plus I don't haul mine regular. My dad has had nothing but duallies but I don't need to push the extra tires around 24/7 just yet. And I also don't tow a heavy horse trailer yet so it's not worth it to have the duals for the 6 times I tow my camper farther than 20 miles.

I am not IBEW. Being in Texas Union is not very common. Though if I had the chance and could make a decent living. I perhaps would consider it. This 80hrs a week 3 and half weeks on 4 days off is starting to really get boring.

I call Austin TX home. I work in the west TX and New Mexico area. I love to travel. And I work for Bird Electric. I've been in this trade about 10yrs now. Love what I do. URD, Overhead, hot sticked some 69kv and worked off some ladders on a 345kv line. Climbed on back yards for 2 years. Hold a Department of Labor cert for Line Installer/ Repairer. About to take the New Mexico exam for their JL license.

We have a 2007 f250 with 7" lift 36" 15.5s atz pulls our Dutchmen 2012 voltage V3900..43'7" 16k dry 20K with the toys.. pulled thousands of miles no problems at all.. gets 10ish mpg.. when my wife drives..lol

I don't think you will have any problem.. we do have rear lift springs so that helps but still need to put some air bags on it..

Sounds great. I'm sure it'll move it with no problems. I don't fly down the interstate. I like to keep my rpms to around 1800. My next great debate will be if I'm brave enough to haul it in my street or hot street tune instead of my tow tune. I have gearhead with SCT livewire. Mods afe stage 2 soon to be a no limit, fully deleted with straight 4" pipes out the rear. Stock trans.

Oh. The 6.0 manis and up pipes and studs. Well they will be there soon should I say. Gotta take it to the shop when I get time off. Gonna bypass the do it myself thing this go around. Time is money and I don't have either. Lol

Thanks a lot for all the information. I have an 08 F-250 and when I retire we are getting a 5th wheel we will have plenty of time. Because I won't be in a hurry. Might setup for 6mo at a time. Who knows. But yalls post have been great. I was already thinking of air bags.

Mine is the same way, I am stock height running 35's , Firestone ride right with on board compressor, and PMF traction bars. Tuned and deleted pulling my 11000lbs fifth wheel all is good. I ran a 3 hour trip over 2 big bridges and everything is good.
On a side note I did hit 30 mph winds gusting to 45mph in the mountains on another trip and that wasn't real fun, but kept my speed down and it was cool. Can't say much for the guy next to me with a 30ft bumper pull that couldn't go over 30 mph. Lol
