So today I pulled my truck into the shop with the intent of changing out my glow plugs after work. So I get everything taken apart and I take out the first 2 glow plugs no problem and install 2 new ones. So I get to the 3rd one and as soon as I loosened it I knew it wasnt right. So I tried to see if it cracked put their was too much oil in the way. So I continued to lightly unscrew it until I could just turn the extension and socket with my fingers. When it came loose I took my needle nose and grabbed the glow plug and it was a lil sticky but came out with a lil more resistance than the others. But....I was missing the bottom stuck in the hole.:doh::doh::doh:Well I tried to pull it out with needle nose and to no avail its stuck. So I called my shop and asked him what to do and he said he really didnt know but made a few phone calls and the guys wouldnt let out their secrets in how to get em out but they did say it was okay to drive. After getting really frustrated I decided to put everything together and just have a shop do them. So I got everything together and turned it on. Nothing sounded funny so Im hoping its stuck tight and doesnt go anywhere in my engine and cause some damage. I locked up the shop and drove home about a mile and as I accelerated she just fell on her face and went boom. Im thinking greaaaaat that piece just went into a cylinder. Thankfully I heard my turbo whistle really loud and knew it was one of my boots off my intercooler pipes. Thank God it was and I tightened it down, musta been slacking putting it back together as I was wondering what harm I did to my truck. Im gunna call a few shops tomorrow and see if they can get that one out and do the rest of them. I dont know how big of a problem that piece is and how bad it could be.

Had that happen one time, I got lucky though. Just the casing around the bottom stuck in the hole and I was able to use a small left handed drill bit and as soon as the bit grabbed it pulled out.

take a little carb cleaner, spray around the glow plugs.... then work them in and out, with a bit more cleaner.... your will get them out no problem....

Carbon build up gets around them and I personally think they dont ever burn hot enough to get it off.....

Never had the problem with bosch, or motorcraft...

the rest will come out..., just take your time working them both ways....:D

Soak it in carb cleaner over night, Clamp long needle nose vise grips on it so it cant fall in the hole and tap it with a hammer down till it moves. It will take some working it back and forth to break all the carbon loose but it will come out. Just don't let the vise grips come off, good luck.

I got motorcraft ones but I have no clue what the previous owners put in it

Most likely Auto-Lite.

My truck had this same issue with 1 of the GP's way back when i installed a set of AD's. 7 came out just fine, 1 was stuck. A year or so later Unlimited Diesel installed a set of 2's, and they had a GP blow out of the head on the trip back to me. I wanna say it was the same GP that we had issues with, and IDK if they had an issue with it when they did injectors.

Guess it saved me the hassle of trying to get the stuck GP out. LOL
