I just upgraded from my obs and purchased my first super duty the other day and its in need of new front hubs. Not the 4x4 lock out part but the wheel bearing hub part. Are there any tips or tricks to make it easier or is it pretty straight forward?

Take out snap ring pull 4x4 hub. Then theres a nut with a few washers, pull that. Take off caliper and caliper bracket. Then 4 bolts behind and it should slide out with a little help from a hammer

It's pretty straight forward, keep the order of the washers, other than that, remove and replace. Even if you don't have front ABS I recommend getting the ABS unit, not much of a price difference, and it allows you to grease the hub assembly.

What's the best way to grease?

that just slides down in the abs port? Never seen anything like that, my right side wheel bearring is squeaking like crazy whenever I make a left turn, I'll give this a try!!

Probably too late if it squealing. Thats the sound of metal on metal sans lubrication. Bearings.are probably buggered. I wouldnt discourage you from greasing it however.

Yes it just fits in the ABS sensor port. As stated, yours are probably done, but future maintenance could benefit. They are not sold anywhere that I am aware of, those are machined off of an ABS sensor. My first "model" I took an ABS sensor drilled it out, and tapped it for a zerk, it worked fine too.

making that fitting is a huge waste of time

most parts stores sell this grease gun adapter ,, works great // and I have the machines to make the fancy adapter ,, = not needed

I agree, although I leave mine installed since I don't have front ABS. But in my first response I suggested a large needle style greaser.

I am just wondering. How does putting grease in the abs port help since unit bearings are sealed bearings?

the abs port breaches right into the innards of the unit bearing .

I just did this service and trust Me it works great ,, forcing new grease in and the old grease out past the seal .. just like when you service a trailer bearing .

the vacuum port uses a grove under the unit bearing in the spindle to get vacuum signals to the selector Hubs and bypasses the unit bearing all together.

I purchased Unit bearings when I had to replace mine, that were ABS, and actually they were cheaper than non ABS hubs for whatever reason, as they were both Timken units. I did that so that I would have a place to lube the bearings hoping for more life out of them.

Smart move Alan !!
