Fuel additives...what's your poison?

This is just what I heard, so take it for what it is.
I was told for PS you have to run it at a higher dose, as it's generally directed towards semis (the dosing instructions) which the fuel gets cycled around more. As in a lot gets returned back to the tank's compared to a normal pickup.
Makes sense. rather it's valid or not? I don't know.
I used hot shots in my 7.3, seemed to make a difference. Only other thing I've tried is PS.

I buy a case of stanadyne performance at a time. One small bottle per tank. Never had any water issues. Talked with Jim with lubrication engineers, and when they have the smaller bottles I'll be buying cases from him but he didn't have anything bad to say about stanadyne either.

We stock archoil, and get alot of the big three makes in the shop. They all say the same that there regen is cut by 50% or better. Runs, starts better. Fuel mileage gain also.

I downloaded the test results from the Opti-Lube website. A lab tested many of the products mentioned here an bought there product based on the lubricity results. They also show how much per ounce to use & that was interesting. Been happy with it.

I run Power Service grey in summer and white in winter.

My problem is......The PS seems to leak out of the bottle. The first time I used it, I was going to just stick the bottle under the back seat in that utility tray (thing) that's under there. I did have sense enough to put it in a large zip lock bag, but the next morning when I got in the truck I could smell the strong smell of the PS. Looked and it had seeped out into the bag (and made it's way through the zip lock also leaving a small spot of liquid in the tray). So, now I still try to keep it in a zip lock bag but lay it in the back of the truck. I have a tonneau cover but when I need to reach back there for it and open the tailgate I can still smell that strong odor.

I need to find some sort of airtight container to keep it in that would let that smell (or seepage) escape. Anybody found anything that fits this bill? I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it or it be a big cumbersome something. Just something about the size of the bottle itself and airtight. I know you pay for quality (which I don't mind) but I'm not looking to buy another PSD to tow behind me to keep the bottle in so it doesn't smell up my current PSD cabin. (ok, that's an exageration but you get the idea...lol).

That's the exact reason I quit using PS, I kept it in the bed in a crate and had some meat in the bed also, long story short the meat got ruined. Just got pissed and quit using it

my 7.3s get white bottle PS year round.. runs better, starts better, mpg gain by 1 mpg..

6.7... i tried ps with no gain, tried motorcraft with no gain, howes is what i run every single time i put any amount of fuel in it.. a solid 1.5 mpg gain..

never had gelling issues with either.. been in some stupid ***in cold places too...

This ^ I always ran PS silver bottle in my 6.4 I saw no gains in MPG and it was louder with it in the tank.. I just ran PS just for peace of mind if I couldn't get the Ford stuff or the Racor stuff.

Saw that oreilys down here carries Howes now.. and oh man it makes a huge difference in idle quality and quietness my injector clatter went from a 6.0 to quiet like a 6.7 within 2 miles.. more responsive etc.

I use Schaeffers but don't keep track of mileage so not sure if its gaining anything there.

I spoke to one of the schaffers technical engineers, and the way he described it to me was that the power service additive uses 10 year old technology. Things in the diesel industry have changed so much since then.

Put it in something that wont let it tip...gotta be smarter than the bottle... oke:

I dont think you can do wrong with any of the additives. I personally have given up on them unless its below 30 deg out. If im running alot of bio ill run one to keep from getting algae..

I switched from Grey PS to Howes for several tanks. I noticed more smoke but it did seem to be a little quieter. Could it be that Grey PS has more cetane booster than the Howes?

That is EXACTLY what ive had for yeeears. Got four of them across my Weathergard box. Leaves room on the front edge (side where the strike is) for longer stuff.
