Both Stanadyne (Fuel Manager 100) and Wix (Fuel Manager) offer filter bases that use filter elements under 4" in length and also offer two sizes of longer filter elements if you want more filter capacity and in a variety of micron ratings suitable for light duty diesels.

Dave I think a couple of guys had issues with those bases working well at pressure if I remember right. I use one just fine on the suction side though.

I don't think the need anywhere near that fine a filter....Ford specs are around 15 micron, and I used a 10 in between the pump and the injectors, and a 35 between the tank and the pump, and it's working just fine.

P.S. I also think it's much more important to run some injector cleaner thru it once inna while like Cass @ FF says.

ya don't need any filter for it to work, but what kind of stuff are you letting into your injectors. Cat found that with a 2 micron filter, had a lot less problems with the heui injectors. Since the ultra low sulfer fuel, should run conditioner with every fuel fill.

The early Bean's fuel system that I used had the Stanadyne FM-100 bases rated for 60 psi and I ran the system at 65psi using Stanadyne filters without any problems. The Wix bases may be rated for 50 psi. Pricing is simular between the Wix and the Stanadyne FMs. Around $50 for base/filter combos.

The Stanadyne FM-1000 bases are rated at 100psi but are considerably more expensive and much bigger and the filters are much longer. The base/filter combo runs around $225 each.
