Hey all, new member here. I just ordered a 14 Platinum in white. I am wanting to daily drive and sled pull occasionally. I want to be stouter than a tuned 6.4. It is my understanding that in order to do this there are a few things that must be done.

I have a Mini Maxx race, s&b cai, egr delete, flopro delete pipe, and h&s pyro kit all waiting in boxes for the truck to arrive. I plan to go with a single turbo kit. I have reasearched this extensively, AFTER I ordered the truck, and I felt like I screwed up when I read about the dual fueler kit. It won't work with a truck that has dual alternators, and, you guessed it, I ordered dual alternators.

So, I am limited to a single pump. Then I read about Industrial's modded pumps. They claim a 55% increase over stock. I was wondering if anyone was running this modded pump with a tuned truck and aftermarket turbo. I think it might be enough to get the power I'm looking for (650).

I am kinda new to this performance game. What do you guys think? Is 650hp realistic with a delete, tune, turbo, and modded pump? Am I asking for trouble by trying to run a stock bottom this hard? I'd like to stud it and put forged rods in too, but hate to tear a brand new truck completely apart if stock components can hack it.

I guess the bottom line is I have to outpull a highly tuned 6.4 for personal pride reasons. It doesn't really matter what it costs, but it has to be daily drivable, and somewhat reliable, and I don't really want my new truck tore apart for months. I would like to install a proven setup, I don't want to be the r&d.

Sorry for the long post. I appreciate any guidance you guys can give.

yes you can do 650 if the modded pump is 55% bigger.

Hate to break it to you, but I'd go dual pumps or stock fuel. Industrials pumps have proven to be junk over and over.

Well crap. I definitely don't like the sound of that. Is there another option for a single pump that could put out enough?

I recon a guy could take one of the alts off and make the dually work.

What kind of reliability have people been seeing with the duals? Who's kit is best?

I really should just do what it takes to make the duals work, because I'm sure eventually I will want to go bigger. I just hate it that I ordered the wrong setup.

What turbo kit would you recommend for my application? I was told on another site MPD, studs, and rods. Do you guys think studs and rods are mandatory at 650? I don't want to have to pussyfoot it, kinda defeats the purpose, but otoh that's a whole lot of cash that doesn't give any power...

I know about the H&S breaking point truck, but what are some of the combinations you guys are running and dyno #s if you don't mind sharing the info.

make the duals work. h&s duals. at 650 with a decently sized single it has a good chance of staying together as long as back pressure and cylinder pressure stay tame. i plan on making that power in the next couple weeks and i defintely wont be pussy footing it.

In a way, dual pumps could be more reliable than a stock pump maxed out in a big tune all the time. In 6.4 terms, the stock pump ramps up to 99% duty cycle in a big tune.... Once you go to dual pumps, the duty cycle of each pump at full tilt is like 30%.

Kind of far fetched I know, but you get what I'm saying. The biggest reliability concern would be extra stress on the belt, but even then a belt can be swapped quickly.

I remember reading somewhere, (some how I think it was on H&S forum) that it is real easy to get their pump on if you take on the second Altinator.. Made it sound like no big deal at all, that being said, I agree with the dual pumps way more reliable than a modded pump. Also, there was a certain fellow out in the eastern states who had a 55 over ii pump and it only heald 1700pw where a stock pump usually maxes out at 1400pw... So it's a 21% over pump...

Ok, that settles it. It will be the H&S dual setup. Now I gotta figure out what turbo. That is gonna be a bitch for me. I have read a lot about different turbo's, and honestly my eyes glaze over and I space out, lol

Is anyone running a vgt? I thought I saw somewhere that was an option. In theory it sounds good, but in reality I had some trouble with the one in my stock 6.0...

I am so glad I found this forum. I guarantee it has saved me a lot of trouble in the future. For example, I was gonna buy some stuff from a certain "performance shop"(term used super loosely). I was looking at some older threads on here and realized they had really screwed some people over. I don't want to deal with people like that.

We're talking several thousand dollars if I would buy everything through them. When you think about me and all the other people that has seen or will see these threads showing the bad reviews, it could cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars or maybe millions in the long run! I know I'm not buying jack from them, even if its made by someone else. It's nice to know who not to buy from, just as much as it's nice to know who rocks! It sucks to be the guy that starts the threads I bet. Thanks to the guys that took a bullet for telling us who to avoid...

Yeah no problem!

Hahah

I know elite has a vgt on one of their trucks, seems to work really well... Keep in mind they are using a duramax turbo (not many issues with vains on them in comparison to the 6.0 vgt...) with a vgt: TUNING must be spot on, otherwise those rods are going to come say "hey"!

If I were to but a single on a truck id definatly go the vgt route... Sounds whicked, and is a much cleaner setup as well as you would have the option to tune in a exhaust brake if you so desired!

Why exactly is that? Does it cause too much torque at lower rpms? Would it cause problems even with carillos or equivelant?

Carrillos or R&R would do the trick

We keep these for sale on the shelf.

In process of building our 6.7 with a set of these. But our goal is a little different. Unless the block splits in two it WILL make 1200hp+, I don't care what it takes. If it makes that we will go for more.....

I wonder if anybody has got any serious mileage on one of these trucks with a different turbo and dual pumps. The only thing is I use my truck for work and I sometimes travel to other states in it. I would need to do what I could to make it reliable. I wanna kick butt at the brush pulls, but afterwards tune it down and daily drive it.

who makes a built tranny that has been tested at high hp levels for an extended length of time?

I pretend the 6.7 is a duramax for those reasons LOL (which it kind of is)

Right now there is probably very few of actual customers out there with lots of miles on any kit. However there are the shops that designed them that put miles on them while testing.

We are working on trans options. But once again no real long term builds are out yet to have longevity reports at larger hp.

But we will just have to keep plugging away.

I was hoping somebody makes a dual cp4 kit just because they I like equality and control possibilities. Morgan you gonna come up with a kit for the 6.7's like you did the 6.4? Or is there a reason a cp3 is used?
