I just lock out 6th when towing heavy on hilly road stretches. That stops the annoying hunting back and forth shifts from 6th to 5th and vice-versa. My truck is a 2012 with 3.55's rolling on 35" Toyo MT's. I tow a 5'er that weighs around 13k loaded. The truck pulls it effortlessly.
