If you want to go full crazy mode going overboard on an engine/transmission/ect build, coating surfaces with Glyptol paint can be beneficial.

but doing the application correctly is not trivial, and the benefits from doing so may be kind of trivial.

As with most any coating, it's all about surface prep relative to the product. I spent a fair amount of time on an LHA, LHD and an LPD and can tell you the chipping, grinding and reapplying never stopped while out on deployment. No way to sleep during the day if they were working in your area (espesially on the LPD's) unless you had headphones on. Would love to play around with this stuff at some point.
