H&S HD300 questions?

Guys I am currently running an H&S mini maxx with the HD300 tune set on mild on my 6.4. Current mods are a 5" flopro and the mini maxx. CAI is obviously my next very soon to come mod but will it really cut the smoke down much? I have to barely accelerate, like less then a quarter throttle, and it still hazes pretty good until I reach my cruising speed. If I have to get on it to get out in front of traffic, it opens the flood gates and dumps a nasty thick cloud of smoke. It draws a lot of attention, and probably pisses people off. Im not a hippie, and I know this truck is going to smoke a bit, but if I can make it more efficient that would be great. Any suggestions?

I am brand spanking new to H&S, and have only had my 6.4 for 6 weeks.
So far I love it. Because of H&S and FloPro I went from getting 400 miles per tank unloaded, to 300 per tank pulling 15,000LBS. I will certainly be recomending the mini maxx to every one with a 6.4. LOL

Guys I will be honest, I did not research any of this. These are questions I have had for a week, and havent had time to get on here and look.

Intake helps on some trucks more than others. My F450 was a smokey pig on my 210TPLL tune, put the intake on it, really helps chill things out when you left a stoplight with 25k behind you.

Food for thought

It will be better for your turbos to get something higher flowing. Anything over 200ish horsepower really needs a better flowing setup than stock. It should help with the smoke some too.

no, it's not going to help like you want it to, but I would recommend a filter or intake anyhow

the 300 will always blow smoke at WOT, and you have to drive around the smoke on the bottom end. it's bad enough at sea level. at 3000ft it's even worse. when I was in the mountains, I ran the truck on the easy tunes at stock power to get the good transmission logic and cut down on the heat and smoke.

don't get me wrong, I love my truck and I love the mini, but the tunes have room for major refinement!

turn the low boost fueling down to zero first and foremost

Jared im def going to get a CAI. Thanks.

Jeff I think the current tune is around 80hp. I would have to look again, but I was reading on the H&S website that they recommend not running any thing over 80hp with out a CAI. Regardless the Mild tune is doing pretty well drive wise for me. I will say I do not like the transmission shifting though.

Forrest I am still learning about elevation. Its certainly a big change going from sea level to 2900' above. I never paid much attention to it, but always noticed the DPC competitors talking about racing at that track in Colorado. My EGT's unloaded have hit a max of 900 playing around. I know I can get them to go higher if I tried but I am really not beating this truck up like I did my 6.0. I will be turning the low boost fueling down, and probably going to stock power in hopes of liking the shifting beter. Waiting to see what MCC is doing for folks. Basic mods are helping 6.4s achieve over 550hp, but I am hoping that MCC brings "refinement" and makes for EFI live power and cleanliness.

set your low boost fuel at zero. it smokes some but not much. turns into a light haze when once the turbo spools. the trade off is theres less power down low.

I run my low boost on level 5 and It doesn't smoke too bad. It does if i get on it but not at 1/4 throttle. Maybe get a cac pipe to get better throttle response.

I am having luck with the AFR pro 5r cai setup.

What does everyone run for defuel settings. Mine seems to cut out early because of exhaust temps?

How do you set this, I am unfamiliar with some of the fine tunning with my mini.

Turn your low boost fueling down, default is 3 max is 5 minimum is zero. The lower you go the less smoke it will put out.

Turn low boost down or either switch to the mild tunes (max is 250). With the 250 tune and stock injectors with tow power compounds it's surprisingly very clean under WOT.

To turn low boost down you have to retune your mini max. It's under install new download. Continue through until you reach that. H and s has a new update also. Nows the time to update so you can have easy, mild, and hot damn tunes all at the same time

Guys honestly im prolly just being to picky. It has the power to push the truck plenty good at 1/4 throttle. Its just the second or 2 it waits for the boost to build it dumps it. I will have the wife follow me videoing it today.

Kinda sounds like and EBP sensor to me you should have very little smoke with those tunes. Check your ebp and map sensors

you must have a magical truck or magical programmer because I've put H&S on probably 20 6.4's and every one of them smoked like crazy

dyno'd a 6.4 in 2011 the put down 570rwhp consistenetly in Austin Texas and it barely hazed. There were CR's "rolling coal" and not even breaking 400hp. LOL I was impressed and in love when I seen this. I dont remember what tune he had on, but it was awesome.

Ok I made a video this morning and its barely even blowing. All that haze from 0mph to cruising was gone. I only ran it 1/4 throttle, and half throttle. Yesterday on the way home I had to get on it and it was blowing like I had a Cummins with 4 tuners stacked with flipped out tow mirriors at WOT in 6th gear at 35MPH. LOL I didnt run it at WOT this morning. I will make another one this afternoon at a 1/4, 1/2, and WOT and see if it gets back to its ole smokey self. Still havent changed any settings. Havent had time. Im going to try on my lunch break today.
