ok guys im a 7.3 lover and owner but i do a bit of side work, anyhow im working on a 6.0 that was puking coolant out the resevoir and exhaust. i figured blown head gasket. pulled it all down found the egr cooler appears to be leaking, pulled the heads off and sent out to a machine shop... the heads are cracked around the valve seats and need replaced. also when the truck was first running it smelt heavy of raw fuel but seemed to be running fine so im recomending that he replace the injectors also due to one may be slightly overfueling. how do these turbos hold up once they have had coolant run through them? i know on the cummins side with the vgt even with cleaning shortly after they go kaput. where is a good place to source the heads? also we plan on doing the swamps egr ****** kit with the h11 studs. this truck has no tune and is used for hauling classic cars to shows and thats it. i told him we will have to run a tune on it for removal of the egr system. what tuner is recomended? thanks!

As long as the turbo is cleaned well and isn't heavily pitted usually they're ok.

UCF Machine Shop would be my recommended place to source the heads, although it may be a little overbuilt for what your customer is going to use it for...but hey overkill is just enough right?

gear head tunes hands down. wouldnt worry about the turbo too much, clean it and put never seize on the unison ring. Not sure what year the truck is but i would do standpipes and dummy plugs or stc fittings when your in there. Also a good idea to replace the oil cooler with an oem unit.

not sure why you are throwing injectors at it without further diagnosis...

You don't necessarily "need" a tune after the work above is completed. Depending on the year of the truck, it will throw a CEL with a egr *****. Having said that SCT with custom tunes ( IDP, G-head, wpe) are all good tuners. A tow tune wouldn't hurt after the work is completed.

I just spent $7500 rebuilding my top end with rebuilt heads mine were also cracked at valve seats. Had to replace all the injectors on 1,3,5,7 bank plus glow plugs, y pipe, new up pipe for my turbo, new ARP studs with triple crush head gaskets, egr ****** and full mbrp 5" exhaust. After replacing heads, injectors etc. it's been running great. Just food for thought.

2004 F-350 fx4 35's, tuned, studed & ******d, 12k winch, 5" full exhaust
