Not true. I use a cylinder leak down tester set at 100 psi, and have never had a problem finding leaks with it. That aside I would definitely suspect the d rings in the spool valves. Seen way to many of those lately.

sent from the shop making things fly.....

Is it one of those leaks that if its leaking even a little bit on one injector, the truck won't fire up under certain conditions?

Or could one or more of those d-rings be leaking a little bit and the truck would still start and run fine until the pressure tries to build?

you will not be able to see a spool valve leaking down with 100psi of pressure.

ask me how i know.

with a spool valve thats leaking down, the more there are, the longer the hot crank time till it can't build enough pressure.

The owner of lone star diesel down here uses shop air and finds them somehow. Then again it might not be a spool valve like you say but he finds them. That may be my problem. Ive had weird starting with my truck since 2009. Sometimes it would bust off no problem hot or cold. Then sometimes It would turn over for quite a while before it cranked no matter if it was hot or cold. Im guessing the HPOP finally gave out because the truck just lost all power and died once I let off the throttle In Houston. Wouldnt crank back up. I had Garrett at PSM run a check on it about a month before all that and he said IPR should be starting the truck at 40 percent but it was going all the way up to 70ish. Told me it was the HPOP so THats what Im guessing. I just hope I dont have any other problems like that. Spool valve etc. Im hoping he will check that once I get the new HPOP in.

It's a 04 so it's a hybrid wavy rails and 03 pump.
Prob has icp leak
Such as
Dummy plugs o ring
Stand pipe
Injector o ring in injector
Icp sensor circuit failure
Ipr mechanical failure
Icp harness oil wet
Failed Hp pump
Branch tube
O ring in Hp pump feed
Hp pump tube to branch tubes
Stuck lp pp regulator
Bad lp pump

most have been hot no start conditions, or really long crank times when hot.

No offense, but you're not looking hard enough then. EVERY one that I've tested this way you can reach right under the fail and tell which ones are leaking, or if its bad enough you can see the trail down the injector. To each there own I guess.

I just take the a dummy plug out of the rail and use shop air with a rubber tip blow nozzle you need 2 people to do the job but you don't have to mess with making a adapter.

LOLLOLLOL thats some funny chit right there.

i never said i ever had a problem diagnosing a hpos leak. im just stating what works quickest, and easiest to spot even a miniscule leak.

Like j said, that wasn't meant as a slam, but just that shook air works fine, and is just as quick. You can tell using the leak down gauge by the percentage it holds.

I appreciate the help. Mine is a '04 so no STC problem and put new stand pipes and dummy plugs in 30k miles again when I took everything apart to do head gaskets. I know that doesn't mean one of those isn't leaking but didn't put new HPO o-rings in the top of the injectors when I put the oil rails back on. I'm going to try to find the leak this weekend using air and if its a top o-ring ill just get a set of o-rings for that side of the engine. Can you buy just the HPO o-rings anywhere or do I have to buy injector o-rings kits and new stand pipes and dummy plugs?
