Melling pump on this new motor, noticed the last two mornings the oil pressure was in the 50-65psi range on acceleration. At idle its about 25-27...

Once warm (160*-180*) it seems to settle back to 25-40psi...

Had the exact opposite issue when I first started driving it, seemed low with my low pressure light (on the Isspro gauge) coming on at 20psi coming back to idle.

Not too worried right now, just higher then I would expect to see...

Thoughts?

Weird that it increased. Presumably the gauge still zeroes properly with engine off?

Ya, I thought it might be a sensor issue too, but its not.

I expected more feed back then this, guess I'll just keep watching it for now.

Should it not? I would expect it since that what melling claims will happen. I dont have a gauge to watch mine but hopefully soon I will.change.that. You sure you arent just used to tired stockers?

In for some answers too as I just installed one of.these.

I had a melling in my DI motor and didnt ever see more then 50psi.

I guess I am not overly concerned, just seems 70psi is high. If I went out right now and fired the truck up it would sit at 45-50psi, drive it and it will hit 60 up to when the oil gets above 160-180*... Then it acts normal.

I plan on changing the oil this weekend, wanted to do it sooner but funds are tight right now...

It can, but 70 psi cold is very normal on any modern engine. Start getting around 120 and you can erode bearings over time.

I gotchya. With more pressure, would more oil be circulating more often? Thus wearing down the lubricating properties of the oil, faster?

That a question for someone else, but remember pressure is a resistance to flow.

I can understand that. Hundred here, hundred there and pretty soon you've got 3k in parts to.replace.

It is, never replaced the pump on the blue motor and wished I had... So I did it on this one...

Oil has about 2000 miles on it now.

No coolant... This much I know. Coolant level is the same, oil level is the same and clean.

From the book:

Oil Pressure, Normal Operating Temperature @ Curb Idle - 10 psi
Oil Pressure, Normal Operating Temperature@ 3,300 RPM - 40-70 psi
