guess ill look locally. dosent seem like there is alot to them to have to rebuild. just need some parts. i figure ill be better off if i go thru and replace all the expendable peices vs taking a chance on a autozone flunkie. still might go the autozone route not sure yet

My altenator was overheating as well. Turns out the diode was not working properly. It probably cooked the batteries I had. I ended up after looking for a rebuild kit buying a new alternator from advanced autoparts. They had a online deal which got me the new altenator for $200. I looked around town and could not find a source for altenator parts short of having a shop do the work which was going to cost $170. I am going out of town and needed the truck so I kept the stock altenator (it was a $10 core.). Rebuilding the alternator isn't that hard so I will have a spare I guess once I get some parts to rebuild it.
