My 15 duramax started to make a sound today that might sound like a diesel. Not sure as the exhaust makes no sound but under load it rattles a little. It's predecessor the 7.3 and 6.0 were so quiet not sure what to do.

Try a Cetane booster. I use Amsoil Cetane booster and add it to my Howe's fuel conditioner. Before I didn't use a Cetane booster and I got a lot of extra racket. Purrs like a kitten now....

Amsoil cetane didn't do **** for my truck, but their injector cleaner + cold flow did wonders. So now I just use Ford pm22 during the warmer weather.

I have. It seems to help some, but definitely doesn't keep it away 100%.

The OP has never owned a 7.3L

The trucks do gradually get louder from new. As the engine breaks in alittle noise becomes more present. You may also be hearing a passive regen. It's a small regen not noted on the dash.

The noise is directly related to injection timing. It's just the nature of the beast.

I haven't owned a 7.3, but rode in plenty of them. What does that have to do with anything?

Its not passive regen causing the noise.

If injection timing is it, then that just sucks.

i would bet 100 bucks its the EGR,

If you have someone that has a good scan tool that can monitor EGR duty cycle see if the noise follows the EGR cycle. ALso a good way to check is to command 30% EGR duty cycle and see if the noise sounds about the same.
